Lol my mate is 5' 10. Anyway, the rebar and mesh is finished and the bottom drain pipework in place ready for the concrete pour tomorrow afternoon. Brickie is coming Thursday evening to start the walls :-)

looks a fair old size now. what do you do with the drains just attach them to a pump? bet it will be hard getting the fish out of there if you need to .

How long until you can fill it up and put the fish in etc?
Someone I knew had a local Heron that kept taking his fish!

Ideally each bottom drain should be connected to its own filter and pump but we don't have the space to have two of our filters by the pond. I decided to put in two bottom drains anyway though mainly due to the shape of the pond, so we get a more even draw from the bottom. Basically the filters will be gravity fed, which means the filter and the pond water level are at the same height, you then pump water out of the filter into the pond which causes the water to then flow from the pond to the filter to even the levels again but this happens contiunously. Like this;
Both our bottom drains will be connected via a 4" Tee and then feed to the Nexus 300 filter. It will then be pumped out of there, through the UV and through the Ultrabead UB60 filter and back to the pond via 2 or 3 returns, depending on the time of the year (one of the returns will be the waterfall, which won't get used in the winter.)

Not 100% sure yet, but I'd take a guess at 3 weeks. The concrete base has been poured today and the brickie is starting the walls tomorrow so we will be making quick progress again for a few days, but the windows and fiberglassing are going to hold things up a bit. We're now putting in two windows, one is 6' long and 2' high along the front wall of the pond facing the house, and the other will be 4' long and 2' high facing the decking on the right hand side. The other sides will either be covered by the decking or facing the fence or garage, so no point in having windows!
Here is the progress from this afternoon anyway, I left work to help barrow the concrete around the back but had to go back to work again before it was all smoothed off etc.

There's going to be about 15 tons of water in there so it needs a solid base, plus it also secures and helps form the conduit for the bottom drains.

It's a shame that the windows won't be here for another week or two but the guy fiberglassing the pond for us is flat out with work until the 6th of August anyway so in the grand sceme of things it wont make any difference to the end time of the project. It will give me a bit more time to sort all of the plumbing and electrics too so we can literally put the fish in the day after it it has been glassed :-)
On a positive note though, I managed to take apart the pump that ran on the old skimmer line at my mum's pond and repair it, which will save us about £400 It had a screw and wall plug lodged in there which was stopping it from turning, and the inside of the impellor also had 5 pieces of plastic media from the filter stuck in it too!

Not yet no, we almost finished the block work today so will be concreting the walls and backfilling the hole this week then need need to try and get the skip lifted lol
