Thank you Gavin and corsa nation for being on topic. I've driven one before my brother had one (ash_ep3) now drives a Scooby! So the 2 main things are the gearbox crunches and steering rack. What's the price of getting that fixed out of interest?

I had an EP3 for just over a year. Was running 250bhp with the bolt on upgrades and never managed less than 250 miles to a tank, was usually nearer 330 miles. VTEC was lowered to 4.5k rpm.

Removed the upgraded ECU and returned to standard as its now my missus car and it just about returns 250 miles to a tank as you have to drive it harder now.

Car has done 117k miles now and has needed nothing apart from normal service parts, doesn't use any oil etc. only reason I got rid was because I got an FN2.

i hadn't realised that they'd gotten so cheap to be honest. I wouldn't mind one myself if i had any need for a car i still miss my dc2 that i sold afew years ago but they still go for silly money i'd rather have the £2500 difference in my pocket, or spent on cameras these days

They are not prone to stretched chains Like any engine you may have to change it but it's not a common fault. And at blaming the engine if you let it run low of oil

Tracking is essential on any other car you lower so its no more expensive than anything else

I had to buy the eibach camber bolts and get it all set up properly as it was scrubbing my tyres on the inside once I fitted the eibach springs. Cost me £200 all in iirc.

You dont 'need' them.

People fit adjustable camber bolts & rear camber arms, running -1 degree camber is supposed to improve handling furthermore.

Mines was good without that.

In standard form they are good but not great... don't forget they are 12 years old now...

I used to get about 250 miles from a full tank when it just had a filter... after the other mods and remap I managed to get 300 miles (average, mixed driving) to a tank.

People saying how slow they are off vtec... mine was quicker to pootle around in than my scooby is now tbh... (could easily sit at 30mph in 5th and it would take no time at all to get to 40mph). Even my mate with a 290bhp astra vxr said he was impressed with how quick the throttle response was!

Oil consumption was probably the biggest issue... used to get through 1litre every 2 months with hard driving - but it did rev to 8500ish!

Drive it from cold... watch for smoke and see if there is any issues changing gear!

Is your Scooby broken?

On a serious note I would like a ride in an EP3 one day to see just how different it drives compared to the bulky FN2 which I had.

My single regret from CTR ownership is not getting it remapped and VTEC lowered to 4.5k. Everybody who has done it says it totally transforms the car for the better.

Put your scooby in 5th at 30 and see how long it takes to get to 40 (mine isn't on boost and lags). But this could be related to gearing etc.

I do miss the revs of my old ep3.
