yeah they do that shit on the flood plains round here fairly regularly, bit dangerous imo as they are sumbermisble (sp) engines

that's the jet, not the engine.

Engine drives a shaft which in turn drives the waterjet impeller - the impeller is in a sealed thru' tube and there's normally a protection grate on the entrance to the water pick up. Worst thing that could happen is a bag covering the pick up but you just stop, it falls off you carry on.

I just wish my hovercraft was finished, the river opposite where we're building it has burst its bank - should be good fun in this sort of weather
