Some of you make know i have an astra mk4 van I use on track mainly, occasional road use. Have polly bushed, coilovers, rear anti roll bar, castor bushes, run camber on track, also have rear camber shims, one thing I have not done is the front anti roll bar,

Question is. . . Is it worth doing? And . .

Choices are whiteline, 22mm fixed
Or h&r that's 24mm and has 2adjustments?

White line have great reputation but can't ignore the h&r one cos its thicker and can adjust. Any one have any advice?

buy one, try it... see how it feels (can easy diconnect in minutes to test back-to-back).

There may be times where the adjustable would be better - different tracks, wet weather etc.

Simply having a bigger bar diameter doesnt mean it'll be stiffer. It may be hollow, less rigid steel etc

If I was to go for one it would be the adjustable one. If it didn't work sell it on. At least you can tick it off as tried.

It's ment to be bit of a pig to do, have to drop the front subframe to get to it so was hoping to get it right at first attempt, I have a whiteline rear arb, white line camber shims so seems to make sense going to whiteline to match rear.

Just like the sound of stiffer and adjustable h&r but that's twice the price, also stiffer may not be beta

rough spec of the van is:-

engine:-
astra vxr engine conversion . . z20leh
front mount intercooler
3 inch exhaust from turbo back
romanian hi flow inlet manifold
oil cooler
forge re curc dump valve
larger top hat
tripple fan set up
larger ally imprezza radiator
ducting behind bumper for all air to go through radiator!
all thats needed to go up to phase 3.5,
last rolling road gave 323hp and 413lb torque.............. Now 299 bhp and 360
or low boost 256hp and 315lb............now 269 and 270lb
engine bay painted up in flip

simce those power figues power has been dropped to make it beta on track, i now have between 290 and 300bhp from 4k revs all the way up to 7k! so much beta from track use!

kw v3 set up front and rear....... Just sold this to change for Gaz golds.

330mm disks so 17 inch wheels can fit over

td pro 1.2 these are 17 x 9j....... bit wide really but squeeze in
235/40/17 toyo r1r tyres for road and wet track

Vectra wheels with 215/45/17 yoko a048 tires , use with spacers

Set of 17x8 inch wheels with 240 width slicks for dry track use, also use with spacers

Bodywork:-
front arches cut, re shaped, welded up for extra clearance but still loook oem to normal people
raised bonnet for cooling

gsi replica bumper, with areo catches to remove it in around 30seconds.

I personally wouldn't, but would raise the spring poundage rate and get couple of them rose jointed drop links from 888dan.

Then again I'm lazy and dropping subframe etc is something I can't be bothered doing.

If you deffo want to do it though might be cheaper to get one from another Astra, I would guess the VXR would have the thickets one?

I have rose jointed drop links already, cost of upgrading roll bars is to to expensive, more bothered about getting it right first time than the price. Lol

Done things cheaply before and ended up replacing most things since with beta, like brakes and suspension.

Am having Gaz golds made for the van with custom springs and valving so hopefully that will improve things more. Just wanna get the most out of van I can and still keep it sensible.

what spring rates are you getting with the gaz golds?

Also looking at that pic, the back end could do with being a little lower so maybe you can measure free length of spring on now and get gaz to make you a shorter one.

That was the lowerest my kw would go on the rear and that was with spring adjusters taken out.

Got my cheap coilovers back on the van now which do sit a little lower, my 17x9 inch wheels catch a bit so may need to get grinder out if I go much lower.

To got as far as spring ratings yet for the Gaz, talking to mike at Corby Motorsport who is in contact with Gaz. Sent pictures over, hopefully talking spec on Monday.

What's Bo Nielsen running as that certainly handles well, I'm pretty sure mk4 and mk5 parts are interchangeable

What aspect of handling are you trying to improve/correct with regards to handling? Is the rear ARB adjustable?

Yea rear arb is adjustable, the handling is good to be fair just wanting to get the most potential from it I can. And front anti roll bar is one thing I have not done. The van looks to have quite a lot of roll in the corners on pictures also, think new suspension will be stiffer that should stop some roll,

Hello, as you are aware I have a similar spec but I do run the Whiteline front ARB in addition to all there other products. It is a fairly large job to fit as the subframe, wishbones & steering rack all need lowering.
With regards to the difference. Well prior to fitting I found the car at its best with the 2nd from hardest ARB setting on the rear (and lowest setting in the wet). I opted for the non adjustable front ARB as I didn't want to go so stiff that it'd introduce understeer. As a result I've found with the rear on its stiffest its now the perfect balance. I run 1.5 degrees front Camber which is a nice compremise. My mate runs all the same handling mods but runs 2 degrees. As a result it pulls itself over the road more than mine but does feel slightly better on track.
So to answer your question. Yes I did feel a difference, definately noticeable on track. Not so much on road though, just the front end feeling slighty tighter. Dooooo itttttt

Think it could be worth going for the whiteline one then just so I don't go to stiff, and at least the products are matching. On the road I have put my camber down to 0.5, how do you tires last with 1.5 degrees?

Also how did you set up you adjustable drop links?
