Bit of tech info basicly

Friend of mine popped his rs125 engine so bought a new one

He wants to keep the head and top end off his old engine for some reason

Basicly what i wanted to know is do they work off things like stretch bolts that need replacing each time you remove them on the head?

Or if hes swopping the head does he need to replace anything other than the gaskets obviously

I'm sure the reason he wants to keep the head is because the earlier bikes had slightly more power and if his his an earlier bike then there you go.

Should of let it warm up before riding it. Mito's are better anyway.

Ah 2 strokes, they are the future, so simple !

Only did gaskets on the ones I replaced but you might as well do rings as it's simple simple stuff.
Never even bothered to get the correct torque settings for the bolts, just as long as they were tight it was good.

What happened when the engine 'popped' ? cos if it was main bearings/ crank then head/ top end may be damaged too...

if you use decent fully synth 2 stroke they dont do rings half as often. i done 10k on my tuono 125 and it was absolutely mint!

Just go to grampians in waterloo and grab a top end set and some rings. Easiest things to build ever mate.

i say it popped, basicly the gearbox was fucked, wouldnt rev above 5k and then if it did it sounded like a f1 car then it started seizing up and he still kept riding it into the ground and i think to be honest hes just worn the feck out of the bore and the rings as theres no compression and no way of it starting any more
yer gaz ill send him down
ive heard little end bareings are the main thing to do if your changeing it as they go quite easily

I use to put a cap of 2 stroke in my petrol aswell. And let it tick over whilst putting my gear on. 17k miles in a year and abit on a 50 with a 70 bore kit

Never had a problem though an it got death everywhere.

It just fouls the plug too much oil the right mixture and decent quality and you wont need any extra

Need to do plug checks every couple of thousand to see how its running imo always jelps

I would tell him to bin his oil pump and pre-mix the petrol as they seem to always fuck up.
