Mean Allan
It depends really on what make up she uses. Buying her foundation is dangerous territory if you don't know what colour she needs. Maybe buy her a gift card for M.A.C or something (I use MAC mainly but benefit, max factor, estee lauder, Dior etc are all good too)

I think you would be best getting her boots vouchers so she can choose herself
You have to really know someone to get them the right make up I.e skin tones, dry skin, greasy skin,
And if you having to ask us then you clearly don't
Reason I say boots is they have a range of mid range brands to chose and she could make an appointment at one of the make up counters to get advice
If you want to go for more expensive brands then somewhere like debenhams and house of Fraser have things like benefit which a lot of people rave about!
I personally use max factor, rimmel, no7, bodyshop and Helen E

Buying a loved one vouchers is lame IMO. This is something you'd do for a workmate's birthday or whatever when you all put some money in together.

Just ask them what they actually want and get it for them?

Do you mean clarins?
Its not lame to get vouchers if you put thought in to it!
Could go to the clarins counter, book an appointment for her to go and have a make over or whatever then get a gift box with some smellies in and put the voucher and appointment in there
Job done!

Thing with Clarins/Clinique is that you usually go to the counter and they check your skin type and stuff
If you want to buy something for her then your going to have to go for lipsticks, eye shadows, glosses, eye pencils and mascaras

there is no way you can buy foundation for someone unless you know what it is they usually have

Actually, the other day I was in Boots and they had a special offer on a make up kit in a nice presentation box!! Was a good make too
Maybe get something like that??
Had all sorts of different things in apart from the actual foundation. So all of the above! And maybe some cheek blushers too

Aaah maybe book her into a make up skills class? She can have whatever make up she likes but if she isn't sure exactly how to apply it like the models, it won't make a difference.
Kerry hit the nail on the head in regards to skin types etc.
Also (and I mean no offence) for a younger woman I think clarins and clinique are poo!
