Increasingly we do jobs, reach the end of peoples budget and within a couple of weeks they are on the phone asking us to come back to finish it as its taking them too long/making an arse of it.

Since I started full time in May I've noticed people think decorators come in, throw so paint around and you are out again in a day but when they start to tackle it themselves they appreciate the work that goes into it.

So, opinions?

I hate decorating. That's because I'm inherently lazy though. I hate most things that prevent me sitting on cs all night.

Very time consuming, woodwork being the worst offender.

It's all in the prep, anyone can paint!

I spend hours making sure walls are smooth before paint, filling / sanding or if really bad have skimmed!

Lining paper before your chosen paper can give so much better results!

It's easy to do just how good you want the results for how much time you want to put in!

same in my job Ollie. Ive had a few people want me to put the copper in for heatings and bathrooms saying they will do the 2nd fixes themselves. only to come back 6 weeks later and spend x2 the amount of time sorting their fuck ups out

I don't mind it, I'm just shit and painting where the wall meets the ceiling and I'm shit at wallpapering hence I've only tackled the living room in my house.

People in general are lazy. Think a job is easy, start and can't be bothered to do it properly.

Either leaves them with a half-arsed shit looking finish, or no finish at all.

i don't mind painting as it's easy (if you have smooth walls). not keen on wallpapering so my dad does all that as he's the bollocks.

As a profession seems to be done by people with little intelligence who cant find proper skilled work. Donkey labour etc. Mundane repetative task for mundane people.

Bit like a builders labourer etc

I'm stripping my room totally at the moment. It's not exactly hard or skilled, it's just boring as fuck. Pro's want far too much money to do it though so I'll stick it out and do it myself. Broken the back of it now anyway.

Only thing is I've not decorated a ceiling before so that could be interesting

I'm papering my large bedroom. Fucking boring and hate cutting around windows and shit.

Wish I could plaster. Imo, plastering is a real skill. I'm sure I could learn but I don't have the time.

an engine doesn't just consist of a flywheel mate. next time you're around here, pop in and i'll take you round and show you just how much actually goes into building 1 engine. it's actually ridiculous.

depends who's off. usually based around the flywheel/clutch/sending the engine out to the customer/team leader.
