Tempted to update, but not if it makes my iPhone as slow as a snail!

P.S. Cavey do you approve of this post?

According to the benchmarks the iP4 runs faster on iOS5 than iOS4:

"The iPhone 4 with iOS 5 GM reaches 51701 which is significantly higher than its score of 36675 on iOS 4.3."

Just shows a lot of the 4S speed is down to how to software is optimised for the phone.

Not really, for example I'll still have to use WhatsApp to message my mates with BB's (when they're working )

Could also try;

1- Install newest version of iTunes while do not connect your iPhone, iPod or iPad yet.

2- Once installed, run new iTunes for a while then close it.

3- Windows users simply go to folder

C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates

Mac users need to locate it. I don’t really sure where it is.

4- Cut and paste files there to somewhere else.

Do not delete them in case the steps does not work for you, you can still copy them back to the folder. You can find out your username by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.

5- Put your iPhone into DFU Mode

6- Finally, proceed with iOS 5 update procedure

Mines failing right at the 'verifying with apple' stage so clearly their servers not happy.

Annoying that you have to extract the entire file first

Also, some people have been successful when updating in Aeroplane mode, might be worth a try if your struggling.

Is there a way to hacktivate iOS5 or does it require the jailbreak?

I've got a 2 4's here, one I'm updating normally but one I need to hacktivate.
