Montcalm is best ive stayed in, but is expensive.

Just get a travelodge or something. What part of London are you wanting to be near?

Well theres a tower bridge hotel, thats quite central. Near the tube and obv river. Quite easy to get your barings.

Think its called the gruman or something, if you book through lastminute.com its same rate as a travellodge but far nicer. My gf has been a few times.

Check out the reviews on trip advisor, one of the best reviewed in london. Have stayed there before and loved it. The city of london one is right neer tower bridge and really close to the tube

Not stayed there, but had a quick look inside and looks quite nice. I'd imagine its a bit noisy though as its on a busy junction.

there's a travel/premier inn/lodge next to the aquarium, near the eye from memory. Stayed at the City Inn in Westminster, that was nice and not too pricey. Hotels.com have a 10% off thing at the mo, make sure you also book through quidco, you'll end up getting nearly 20% off most.

Thought of an appartment?
We stayed in one of these for a weekend and it was alright for the money.
Very new and modern, we had trouble with the heating but that was about 2 years ago now!

Depends on the saving of the room in comparison to the extra tube fair.

thanks for all the suggestions, been running them by the missus, ideally we dont want to spend more than about 700 euros (her + oxford street etc) we might even end up staying only 4 nights and the rest up where i used to live. Looking like staying about 10 mins out and using the tube is the best option.
