After Dad (and I!) stacked about 110k on his Mk II Prius in just over 2 years (he got it in Feb 09), his company replaced it with a new one for him:

We discovered that the last one wasn't really up to it's eco claims, averaging about 49MPG throughout it's life, making my Alfa just if not more economical. This one however has shocked us - this is 70/30 Motorway/Town driving:

It's not over estimating by much either!

It's 100000000 times nicer to drive, nicer to sit in and loads more toys than the last one... doesn't look as offensive either. My fav toy has to be the keyless entry, unlock, start and lock the car with the key in your pocket

It will ofcourse be my 5 star accomodation for PVS.

I'd like to say this is by far not his first choice but it ticks all the boxes for him, automatic, cruise control and higher than a 1 series. He likes the satnav as well.

Surely though a Golf diesel is just as economical.

I managed 60mpg average to and from Thruxton last week, and half of that was doing 80 on the M3/M1.

No town driving, but still.

I saw a black one the other say it had whimsy black alloys and I actually double glanced because I thought it looked nice and didn't know what it was. Was gutted when it turned out to be a Prius

On topic. I saw an Auris on full electric mode the other day. All you can hear is the tyre noise. Was so strange to watch driving past me and out of the road.

Plus I wonder in anyone has been run over by one yet

Why have hybrids got to looks so shit? Why couldn't something normal like a Focus be a base for a hybrid. It's like that stupid thing Honda made with half the rear wheel covered over.

One actually overtook me not long back and it didn't make a fucking sound as it went by, weird really...seeing a car overtake you and make no sound.

You're right it is nothing special but costs him 1/3rd of a Golf diesel that would not average 60MPG at 80. He's happy that's what matters

His 2.0 TDI Audi managed 45MPG over 150k doing mostly 80 on the cruise control for most of it's life.

There's no denying he's been fucked over car wise, his 2005 policy was the best, any car with 5 doors upto 20k, now he gets a list with a handful of VW's and Toyotas on it.
