My sisters 1.4 8v Engine in her merit has died, If i were to give her my 1.4 16v engine from my Sri, what else apart from the engine, would i need to move across??

Gearbox?
Brakes?
Sus?
Drive shafts?

Or will everything already be up to the job??

Thanks.

The engine mounting points are different between an 8v and 16v also.

Kris, to convert the front brakes across then, what would need to be changed? Disks pads and callipers? Would the master cylinder be up to the job on the on the merit?

the 16v mount is in the chassis leg low down where as the the 8v is higher up and on the outside. i spose u would have to cut away old mount and cut the leg to fit the new mount.

Could i just move the loom and ECU across from the Sri to the merit??

Would i need a new fuel pump in my SRi if a 2ltr went in instead of the 1.4 16v, if so i can give her the fuel pump from my sri too. Just a case of swaping it across again or wot?

Thanks for the help so far guys

Well the 2ltr is the plan.

Its all started now my sisters 1.4 8v has died. If its not to complicated to do, i'll let her have my 1.4 16v cheap cos she cant afford to fix the car really, and put it in for her. That then leaves my car ready for the 2ltr to drop in!

Just trying to find out what the problems would be putting the 16v into the hole where the 8v came out. Only thing thats worrying me so far is this engine mount thing. Other then that its sounding like almost a straight swap.

Any other potential problems that i would need to think about here people???

wouldnt be two difficult i wouldnt of thougt. looms and rest wouldnt be a problem. u would need to put a mpi fuel pump out of an sri or gsi in the merit also. as with a 2litre u would need the same pump.
