so the garage roof is beginning to split with age and i want to take it off and swap it for the newer stuff, whats peoples recommendations over getting rid of the existing tiles which i know will contain Asbestos.
The council have a refuse site that can take the sheets but its getting them down there in one piece and for those broken ones wrapping them?
take it any good mask used for spraying will also be just as good for this?
saving for a wedding so getting a company / council in i want to avoid.

IIRC you have to get a specialist in to remove anything with asbestos - you can't simply take your stuff down the tip.
That's as far as my knowledge on the subject goes!

My mate removes Asbestos in London for a living, he's currently on 4k a month for 3 days week, seriously good money!
I've text him for you asking what steps should be used with removing it yourself, i'll reply in here when he texts back. I think he's a member on here, so may even reply himself.

Will probably need a specialist contractor depending on the type of asbestos but if it is broken you don't want to be going anywhere near it yourself.
Just got a price for removing some asbestos panelling on a job I'm working on. It's 15-20 metres long and 0.5 metres high and it's going to cost 4k to get rid of it.

fuck that, soak it with the hose pipe and take it down carfully, go the tip and get aload of bags, double bag it and tape it up and you will be fine
wear a mask and wet it so A. no dust comes off it because its wet and B. a mask is making double sure
your outside, just wear gloves and some clothes you dont mind binning after its down and your finished
no one will take any notice of this but common sense says it will be fine, its only the dust thats harmful, its not arsenic

Hire a van. Soak it inside and out before you remove it and take it to the council? Done 
Hose and decent mask needed. Dont smash it up.

That's the problem I have taking it down. The council have facilities accept it just need to know what I should do.

As mentioned wet the material, double bag it in heavy duty waste bags and then tape them up, check with your local authourity as some require you to have a license to transport Asbestos

you dont need a specialist but i remember helping a bloke put a load of it in a container at a tip and he got it there with a trailer and it was all covered and taped in thick plastic sheeting

Be warned, I'm no expert but asbestos surveys and removal regs changed recently to put a bigger onus on the building user to identify and manage asbestos based products.
I'd be checking whether the roof sheets need to be certified for asbestos content before turning up with black bags (the tape to seal them needs to read 'contains asbestos' iirc)

check with the council again.
we did, and (Nottm area) you were allowed one free disposil per house per life time)
you had to double bag it (think sheet bagging stuff) tape it, hire a van, (prove its hired for the day) then take it to the autherised site to dropp it off. Ours was a BIFFA site, but all was free to do, you just had to do it yourself, use mask and make the stuff damp.
If its the cement corogatted asbestos stuff.. it's not that dangerous compared to Blue Asbestos.

Danger money though! A couple of mates are surveyors and bang on about how good the money is for essentially what is a fairly small amount of work they do - they don't seem to get it into their heads why though

There is a lot of H&S and legalities involved in removal of asbestos though, do it properly, otherwise you'll get raped in fines regardless!

You should use a proper mask approved for asbestos as the fibres are so small they can pass through normal 'decorating' type masks.
Ive got my garage to do soon, as said before, just be sensible, wet it and double bag it.

I do agree there is too much H&S these days but asbestos is one of the things I agree on there being strict rules for.

used to play with asbestos as kids it doesnt half pop and bang if you throw it in a really hot fire
there is far too much H&S with asbestos its not that dangerous if its wet and your outside

would get pikeys but they'd clear the whole garage aswell... go kart, ducati and my Nad amp....

Saturate the lot in water to stop any airborne particles, stick on a dust mask, smash bang wallop, load into a hire van & dispose of in the sea!!
