nah makarus, you might want to run linux for its kernel features/security/performance, having windows emulation is just a plus, I wouldnt say it defeats the point!

seriously, u wanna just grab a copy of win2k and install vmware (with linux on). can't go wrong.
Believe me, you'll install linux then think, ok, great, what now. You'll miss windows

Couldnt u just install to each drive then choose what drive to boot up from it in BIOS

XP Pro is better than 2000 Pro, trust me, run the different OS all day long.
If you have 2 drives format them both using FAT32, run Linux on one and XP on the other, you can then store files on both drives so when your in one you can still access files on the other drive.
Emulation in my eyes defeats the point regarding windows emulation in linux.

Windows 2000 = NT. or NT 5!
Even if Xp is suppose to be a mix of 98 and NT, not going to help when you go into a new workplace for a IT job and they have 300 machines running Windows 2000 all networked!

wont the new version of mandrake be able to use NTFS? FAT32 is less secure isn't it?
i kinda didnt want to convert my XP HD to FAT32 because i dont want to lose all my files etc, its already in NTFS.

I am sure it runs the FAT32 file system.
I could well be wrong though, I haven't all that experience with it on its own, more of a windows man to be honest. Just trying to help.

No idea, I moved from Linux to FreeBSD which is a whole different ballgame.
best thing to do is have two different hard drives, one with XP and its crap on it, and let Mandrake Linux have its way with the other hard disk. thus keeping shit seperate.

Yeah, would make sense to me to run it on different drives for the main seperation reasons.
FAT32 is secure, NTFS is secure its just more effiecient with files.
FAT32 means that even if you only have a 1kb file it will take up 16KB of space, but if you have NTFS it will use exactly what it needs.
Win2000 and XP can see both NTFS and FAT32.

I've always used NTFS since i went from 98 to NT a few years back, never went back since! CANT honestly say you see a performance difference.

i know windows xp can read fat32 and ntfs, but will xp beable to read this other file system that linux uses?
for example if i had data saved on my linux HD, would xp beable to read it? i doubt it will, but just curious

I know for a fact that Linux can READ your NTFS/FAT32 filesystems, and thas all in the basic kernel options, but you need another extra program to read data off a ex2 filesystem from XP.
