What's an inner tube got to do with things?

my rad went and it took a while to notice, it would only steam/leak when really hot and after a blast, during normal driving it would be fine and the coolant sealed it

probably only leaking when warm, when the metal expands with the hot water in it the hole may open up

deffo looks like the rad is fucked

+1 when the new water gets to temprature and the metal is expanding slightly the leak will occur and with the added air from driving it will be acting like a syphon as air passes over the hole fiesta 1.8d vans had this problem at my old work

Very sorry mate, haven't ever seen that test before.

Good idea chris, good to see it sorted and that it's not the H/G.

i bet you its not the rad

seems desperate to blame anything other then the most likely thing, the head gasket

For once I agree with Steve.

Trying to avoid the fact it's the headgasket will end up costing you in the long run.

You can see that rad is leaking and has leaked for a while from those pics

surely if its the headgasket, you would notice either steam from exhaust or water pissing down the engine block?

not always, if it was leaking out there the rate its dropping in the tank you would see evidence on the tarmac

could well be leaking a bit but i dont think its the main cause of where the majority of water is going

are you forgetting that i have a flat floor under the car, its not that easy to see drips.

there was a lot of water collecting on the rad housing which could of been from the rad or could of been from the rain (who knows)

i also never said it not the headgasket, im well aware that it could still be the head gasket or a cracked head but the fact the car runs PERFECT, i dont see any smoke/steam from the exhaust and i dont have mayo in the oil (its still golden brown) makes me think that its not that at all.

i have a new uprated gasket coming for when i do the re-build so its not like it wont be getting checked, and i will have a new head waiting if it is the head thats cracked.

i also agree warren, but if it was the HG or a cracked head the performance of the car would be worse..

this 4ltrs of missing water, could it be that that was just replacing lost water, water you may of lost over time and not noticed?

i check oil and water every week. You might of had a shitload of air in the system and barely enough water.
