the next question is..

if it isnt the head gasket, can i actually be causing any damage by driving it?

it never gets up to temperature and its always got fresh water in.

Can't believe I forgot to say this....get the cooling system pressure tested, when pressure is applied water will piss out where ever the leak is.

Just put one of these over the hole where the cap goes and pump it up.

It's a £120 pressurising kit, probs not what you're after buying, but could be useful if you can borrow one.

Aye it was a pic of the expansion tank connectors, no point in buying the thing though.

Removed my coment on .org after reading you are going for a warranty mate.

You have about 1" too much water in there, which id' guess is probably about 1 litre.

Is that a SC thing? there is definitely a max fill marker on the underside of my bottle which equates to the fill line (its the weld line) I know it's a Astra bottle but hey no doubt someone at Lotus made sure the bottle was set at the correct level.

TBH I'd pull the pics, Elise parts owner is active on .org I think

My only other point was that I've never seen as much water coming into mine via the return pipe....not sure if that is a symptom/issue though.

Cheers

ive already spoke to geary and told him exactly whats going on, ive also sent him the pics so he can see.

he says its fucked but there is nothing they can do, i got it 3.5 years ago and no warrenty would cover that,

he said he would do me a good deal on another one.

Fair play,

I've never heard a bad word said about Geary, so I'm sure you're in safe hands.

I just didn't want you dropping yourself in it with the overfill issues on the other site (i'm not even sure that's an issue given the baffles in the header) - but given your rising/falling fluid levels it might be.

ive always since owning the car filled it up to that mark.

there isnt a mark on this header tank which indicated full or anything.

vids nearly done.

Edit: just processing the vid.

what you think to the vid? same type of frothing you encountered?

do you think that a split pipe would cause this tho?

Difficult call that one,

I never said i saw frothing etc....just I'd never seen as much return flow.....but given you have the pipe an 1" or so above the intake feed you can't really tell.

I'm still going with you are over filling it (air lock) and it's venting down to a 'correct' level,

It could be that it's popping the header cap, but not enough to pop it clean off either that or the header is shot and you haven't noticed just where yet.

Either way, IMO the weld line is the correct level.

I would go with this. Try running it with this coolant level and see if any goes missing then.

My mum had a problem with the coolant disappearing, took it to a garage and they couldnt work it out.

Then she was on her way home and it just stopped working, her cyclinder head had cracked.

But there was no signs, no mayo on oil cap, not smoking etc
