Didn't really do much today, very little in fact :/ but anyway I changed my L piece as I'm not a fan of the blue one that was on the engine.

Still unsure on what colour combo to go for on the engine
Black rocker red l piece
Silver rocker red l piece
Any more ideas ?
Something like this but not chrome would be black

Or the reverse

Also removed the old coolant temp sensor as it looked knackered .....

Had a spare one lying around so fitted that looked in better condition ....

Will put a new genuine vauxhall one on next time I go vauxhall, going to get a new oil filter and oil give it a service before it goes in the car as well as a paint up all being well.

Just need a few more bits for the engine, hoping to get a hose kit maybe red .....

That's all for now

Did you get a clutch and flywheel or are you using the one on the old engine.

As the fly is off it might be worth changing the crank seal for a new one.

No didn't get a clutch or flywheel was gonna use the one off the xe like you say as well as the shafts , didnt cross my mind to change the crank seal.
Gonna change the sump gasket as that looks a bit tired and maybe te rubber seal on the rocker ( I've got a brand new genuine vauxhall one )
All being well I'll be able to source an f28 box , seen one on eBay that I might get and then if I've enough pennies get a lightened flywheel and clutch

*****More progress today*****

Not a massive amount today due to time, treated the rust today and got the car up on all 4 axle stands and removed all the arches to remove rust and clean them so here goes .....

Quick trip to halfrauds and £36 later 2 new axle stands one wire wheel , large tub of Hammerite and two brushes

Then swapped my metal L piece

For my plastic one

Then got on to sanding and painting my drums (cleaned my arch as well)
So this was before

After sanding

And painted

Was a bit of rust on the arch as well

So sanded it down (during)

And painted (will get a few more coats)

Got to business on the p/s front arch and painted that after sanding the rust

Will do the turret tops when I remove the suspension

Then I removed the d/s rear arch and found more rust than the p/s bad got worse :/

During sanding

Sanded a bit further down and it came apart, pulled a load of rubber off as well (last pic) not sure if it's underseal or from a repair maybe but this is the state of the arch, don't know what to do now , leave it? , weld it, filler it?

And what I pulled off (felt rubbery)

Thats all for today , next time I will have painted the callipers both drums and the d/s rear arch and rear archs, sanded the beam and removed the bushes ready for poly bushes (hopefully)
Thanks for looking

Bit more progress today spent most of the day sanding with my wire brush attachment on my drill. Not a lot of pics did find some more rust as well today behind the bumper :/ anyway pics .....
Just a few bits in the engine bay looki g a little worse for wear so I begun sanding and preparing them for paint

During

Moved round to the rear and took the bumper off .

Found this as well, didn't look good was prepared for the worst ...

Thankfully it was just surface and came off

Round to the drivers side rear

Sanded it and as you can see, rust has been at it again. Most of it just fell off :/

After that I moved back to the front, searching for rust. When I built gus there was rust under the wings that I found and repaired. I pulled the p/s wing off and a nice surprise was no rust

Random shot of progress

Sanded down the front some more

Was going to sand/paint the rear beam on the car but have decided to remove the beam and replace the bushes whilst it's off.
As you can see the beam is in need of a lot of attention

Will be painting the fuel tank next week for added protection

Coulpe of final shots ...

That's all for today hopefully will be working on it again at weekend.
Last but not least I will be selling my c20xe when I remove it, quick spec
1990 engine done 75k
Water pump and timing belt changed at 60k
Courtney updated clutch
Electronic ignition fitted
Ecu and loom
Also got an SBD 4-2-1 manifold fitted will sell with the engine or take £170 for it.

Thanks for looking

Just a quick question, where can I get some enlarged bolts for when I fit the tie bar lowering blocks ? Or will the original fit ?
Borrowed the pic of bigrons project thread and his bolts look massive !

just take your original bolts to a nut and bolt place and ask for them 50mm longer, mine are that long as they come with the plates so you can use 10 plates each side if you want

Vauxhall 8v cylinder head bolts for the lower crossmember.
And you dont need 10 plates each side mate. Just use the correct amount that allows the tie bars to just clear the gearbox as lowering them too far will upset what handling is left with a LET in
