Don't do what I did and have the rivet gun bounce and smash you in the face. Not pleasant.

Was stood on the floor, not the sill, so head wasn't right out the way of anything. Had a stubborn rivet and after giving it some tug the gun popped and came up and hit me between the eyes.

mr gritt, what sealant did you use and when rivetting did you start at the inside out or outside towards the centre?

ill pop it in here for future reference -

I used some wanky B&Q Sealant stuff - been watertight but not the nicest of stuff and still have bits of it visible where it oozed out

I riveted the centre of the 2 sides, then the corners, then between the centre and corners and spread the load going from one side to another etc to not pull one side down much further than the others - sort of like every other rivet - the the front/rear edges in a similar way

Then got a bead around the outside edge of the plate, and also a heavier bead around the inside edge where the S/R hole met the plate

I drew on my roof with a pencil - I marked the lines of the original hole and brought the lines out quite far (overlapping the size of the plate) so that I could see the inner drilling area edge - otherwise you have no idea if you will be drilling through the roof steel or not!

Word of warning - the roof steel is double skinned in places - you may catch the drill on points which cause it to follow the second skin profile and move - this snapped a couple of my drills.

Also - seal over any holes in the S/R mounting trays, gulleys etc - mine were pouring out fine bits of swarf from the drilling for weeks after I did it - gettin in my hair, over my hands, clothes, the seats etc. Was a pain.

It's not a major job TBH, just can be a bit of a pain if rushed

how much did you pay for the metal sheet.i can get the sheet from work but it will say road closed on 1 side lmao

everything, rivets, rivet gun sealant and sheet cme to less than £30

that was 3mm aluminium in 19" x 35" sheet

just waiting on it all to dry, circa 24 hours it said, then ill wash it and check for leaks, which will be plugged with a shit load of sealant etc, unless anyone has any other ideas?...
