Yep my Corsa used to do it if I was just moving it round the drive to let someone out so it was only running for maybe 30 seconds to a minute. Then it wouldn't want to start the next time I went to use it.

I don't see any white other than reflections of light. It would be inherently obvious if it was covered in white stuff as it would look something like this.
