tbf, its hardly a massive screen you'll be watching hundreds of movies on. Its a portable device that you may watch the odd one or two one, so for that I dont see a problem - its not like a netbook would offer anything different.

Can get netbooks that do 720p, for half the price.

Im not disputing that, Im saying with the size of the screen on both this device and netbooks, its hardly going to make much difference for the small amount of times you may watch a movie.

Whats that got to do with the price of fish?
You could also buy yourself a full blown brand new PC for the same price......

If you want a netbook, buy a netbook, if you want a tablet buy a tablet.

I was continuing the netbook comparison that has been going throughout the thread, and also directly in response to Cosmo's post, so although it doesn't have anything to do with fish it did have a lot to do with what we were all talking about.

It's like a slab of stone, from the future. Like we're all going to start walking around with a slab of technology which is covered in greasy shitty finger prints.

And Cosmo, you're a cunt. Stop picking on noobs.

What did you expect it to use with it being an Apple product?

cosmo - fair point! but therefore (if through itunes) then it ahs to be a quicktime file etc etc, which is no good for your usual person unless you buy through itunes... id want to see other files, but if you can get an app to do that then not so bad!

I'll have a deal with a carrier over here for the 3G versions, as it has done in the US.

Sorry to dig this up - was just thinking about something.

You know you have these programs that let you log in and use your computer from anywhere? Well if their was an app that allowed you to do the same on the iPad, could you effectively have a tablet version of your home computer - be it a Mac or a Windows PC?

there's an app called LogMeIn that works with both mac and pc on the iphone. so there'll be one for the iPad.

You can get RDC and VNC apps for the iPhone so I see it highly possible for it to be used like that.

I can see quite a few HTPC/Home Automation apps too. Many of the companies that produce big touchscreen control panels will move over to iPad

Surely both Apple and Google are both looking towards 'the cloud'.

Basically run all the apps people could ever need on remote servers, accessed via the net. All the heavy processing is done on the server, and the lightweight pc/tablet/whatever just displays the image.

Seems like the logical route for Apple to go down for the ipad tbh.

Its all a good idea with cloud computing, but you'll need a semi-decent net connection and about 90% of the UK doesnt have that

It only needs to be stable enough to download images, albeit quite a few at a steady rate.

I don't think it needs to be super-fast, just rock solid.

I dont know anything about cloud computing, so bare with me, but how is it less resourceful than RDP?
With RDP, your opening up a terminal session on the remote PC and therefore still using its resources as opposed to your own?

Or have I got this all wrong?
