In an accident in Wolfsburg on Wednesday evening, four young men 18 to 20 years, died. They rode in a brand new golf.

A fifth victim is in danger, police said. The 19-year-old driver had the 170 horsepower car, which was registered to his father, only a few hours earlier, picked up in person at the Wolfsburg plant. After he had driven with friends, with over 100 miles an hour through his hometown.

The vehicle was a function of the roadway, crashed into a traffic island, flung against a tree and was ripped from a second in two parts.

"The first responders offered a grim picture," said police spokesman Thomas Figge. None of the five passengers had put on a seatbelt. All were catapulted from the vehicle and thrown into the street.

One of the men died at the accident scene, the other succumbed shortly afterwards in the nearby hospitals due to their severe injuries.

Currently, the bodies are examined for traces of alcohol, drugs and tablets.

We saw this on the front of a newspaper at the time in Germany, they were trying to say that the fact the car was modified was the reason they crashed the idiots.

I don't think many cars would be able to withstand hitting a tree side on while airborne at 100mph.

Did the crash actualy make the car look like that though or are those piks after the fire brigade have had their hands on it? As even a high speed crash such as that would be hard pushed to completley rip are cars chassis in half?

Judging my the distance between the two halves of the car I would imagine the impact caused it to rip in half like that.

this reminds me of that german Audi crash pics that went around, looked very similar, 100+ sideways into a tree would be fatal even if you were in a rally car

should have done a few laps of the Nurburgring then they would be in the elite total hero driving club and not made such a costly mistake.

Nothing to do with it being a New VW Golf elliot? It's just the fact it had 170bhp with a very inexperienced driver, that could happen in any car (as said before the Audi Estate). Knob.

tbh any side impacet at 100mph odd will probably rip apart a car.

Anyone see the Audi one froma few years back in Sweeden. RS6 or something, destroyed.

Tree's are harder than cars, fact. Remember this when doing 100mph down a lane thats wet at night!

Bugger, audi was mentioned

Surely they would have had belts on, I'd imagine VW's have them annoying noises that go off if you haven't belted up?

Either way, I'm never getting in a Golf again.
