thought should put some pics up of little project i started couple of months ago.

main reason for doing the car is because i collapsed end of aug, and cant dirve til march(6months) and after some **** with 'mates' decided to **** it and strip the corsa and build a TB'd xe on f28 as a bit of a toy

hope you like. any comments welcome

heres what started off like, nice and standard

then fitted spax adj. shocks/springs, inlet, rebuilt engine, pocketed 80mm pistons, ported head, lightened/balanced, ashley manifold/system etc and fitted some astra gsi rims.

seeing as i cant drive i started on stripping the interior, and sorting the wiring out, dash, roll cage etc.

dash was out and marked the bits that i wanted to keep and i started to tidy the wiring

i removed the heaters, and started to prime the floors, until i realised i had the cage to weld in, and a small hole in the passeneger side wheel arch, so ignore the white primer. inside will be painted in body colour.

dash back in, and i spiral wrapped the loom instead of tape so i can access it easier if need be. cage is also fitted/bolted in.

im just waiting on my unit off my uncle so i can cut all my door bars, turret bars, diagonals etc for the cage. so to save some £££ i popped up the road to demon tweeks and bought a tube notcher ready for when i can get in and finish the cage off(engineer so no probs cutting/welding all myself). then paint it all nice and red.

Whilst im waiting for that i started on the motor, i bought a 20xe off a mate, but only used the block, crank and sump pan. heres a few pics of the motor all cleaned up, just need to bore block and order steel rods next month. got some of the gaskets, will be using arp all the way through.

started to port the head(inlets are roughed out)

these arrived today from QED so i can now crack on with fitting the guides, cutting back into ports to finish inlets, and crack on with the exhaust and build it up

also got my pistons...nice set of flat top slippers from redline

thats sort of it at the moment, will try to get head all ported/polished this coming week when im off...still need cometic HG to match the chambers too, then thats done. then order rods/arps next month and a steel oil pump gear. just read how much the valves, guides and springs have cost me...trip to the bank now see what i got left!! lmao

hope you like, should go well when done!! hopinig around march/april time

tiny update, started to get engine ready to take out. rad removed, inlet removed, manifold ready to come off, loom pulled through. power steering disconnected.

would of liked to of got it out today, but night on the lash and no engine crane til late 2night, looks like motor shold be out 2morrow

before pic.

loom pulled through, inlet removed.

hope to get engine out 2morrow, if not too wet!!!

trailer queen...may have to borrow trailer for trip backlmao

right few more pics.....took engine out tonight in the pissing rain......o the joys, big thanks to pokey for engine crane and helping!!

fatboy in action

bastard quarry waste drive....had to use the board to wheel the engine/crane next door to my mums garage...about 30yards in total...she doesnt know its in there yetlmao

empty....ish bay, will take sound deadening out, and hopefully cut bulkhead tomorrow if can buy a small die grinder

been back in work past 4 days, and seeing as spent all £££ on house, pistons, valves etc been a bit bored, so decided to put v6 brakes on i had knocking about. need to paint them up, and put the metal retaining clips on. but hopefully they'll be fine.

also dropped the arse end on my mk1 escort, just got to wait to get my front bilstein struts on friday to drop front end. so will sit better once front same level.

should have throttle bodies coming in the next week or so off chris's old white vauxsport nova, try and get rods, flywheel, clutch plate etc this month too to get bottom end built

bit of an update, pics should of been up a while ago, but only just got them off fone.

stripped the 20xe bottom end down at mates workshop before xmas. tbf the crank, bores, etc are in very good condition, and cranks still standard size

few pics..

crank in the hotwash...best peice of equipment mate, so much easier than degreasing by hand etc

i also got a set of QED D2H bodies, dta, loom, etc, but no pics myself. cheers chris

also car went to mates rolling road on wednesday to try get cage finished off(door bars, turret bars, rear diagonals etc.

outside rolling road

stripped all the initerior/engine loom, having a 4x3inch digital display...should be fun when driving! cage was made for having the dash in, then decided i didnt want a dash.

door bars, i could of done with the shorter piece at a lesser angle to come back off, but not sure whether to leave like that or add another piece to tie in with the bottom of the main hoop. if building a full blown rally car id definately of done it.

rear harness bar welded in

need to cut the bulkhead for the turret bars now, i was in work on friday so didnt get enough time to finish it.

bulkhead has also been cut out and battery tray. half the tray is welded, half is bolted....WTF was vauxhall thinking of then?! retards! plasma cutter came in handy

still needs tidying wiht a belt sander/grinder, but get the idea.

once cage is finished, i can paint it, paint the inside, and crack on with the engine bay.
hoping to buy rest of my engine bits this month...rods, flywheel, all bolts, studs etc, cams, verniers, solid lifters, shims, etc etc

so should hopfully be making some good head way in next month or 2

some better pics of the cage up tp now, still need to do turret bars, and get some more tube to do dash bar

here ae some pics ,will let them do the talking, had to weld up he rear inner wings, redone the doorbars, just got to get the tube from mate to finish the turret bars!(so its now a proper X door bar)

stich welded the engine bay, painted etc, cleaned struts up, and ran new copper brakes lines, cheers to pokey. cars only going to get used in the dry so left the arch liners out.

windscreen and sidewindows have been fitted.

hopefully have rest of engine bits next week. block been bored, and bronze guides fited to the head, just need to cut the guides back, and finish porting the exhaust, build up,then get head shimmed.

so rewired the complete car, also using a quad digital display!

digital display...not hard mounted until seats in so i know where to mount it

new dash/switch panel

switch panel so car can be road legal only needing the minimum

should just be able to make out the X door bar now

cleaned/welded/undersealed arches

also got my throttle bodies off chris tunnicliffe

pic of inlet ported, just need to cut guides into port, then finish off

how car stands at moment....bit high...need to get engine in!!lmao

just need to build engine, get my kirkey seats, harness's out of my dads 911, engine loom made, then tax/mot it....easier said than donelmao

got some new goodies, so can hopefully get cracking with building the engine now, see how much £££ ive got spare when gt paid 2moz

solid lifters and shims

ARP mains studs

single 'V' pulley and lightened flywheel

4paddle helix clutch

ARP flywheel bolts, rod bolts and head studs/nuts

piper verniers

steel rods

Full race Newman cams

bit of lift!!

also cleaned gearbox f16 (see how long it lasts lol)

also bought full XE system for corsa for £100 stainless, 3inch round tail 2.5inch

just need to get bottom end balanced and finish porting head so i can shim it and get the shims ground so can put it together

made a bit more progress, still waiting for seats to be cut for valves, so can build head up. cranks been balanced though, but will pick both up next tues when get paid.

couple of pics of few odds and sods over weekend
made 2 stainless covers for where i went through to the strut tops to tidy up a lil bit, and also prevent any water getting into car or settling.

also got a set of bucket seats and corsa frames for £60 which i thought was good price, and also some trs harnesses out of dad 911(putting it back to stock)

see where done turret bars

so mad how much more complete a car looks with seats.

o and managed to put pistons and rods in block...excuses it being on the floor and not the stand, cudnt find pin for stand at time...sorted now tho

nice slipper pistons

hopefully wont be too long til motors built but few family probs will set it back a tad(dad ill off work + had mini stroke last tues,so sucks)

enjoy anyways

small update.

got head back from mates after having seats cuts, so i can crack on and get it built up.

couple pics of head, its such a pain trying to get the centre web on the exhaust really smooth as pic shows, but exhaust ports feel smooth as hell. so all gud

gona give chambers a little bit of a clean, but tbh polishing them is a bit of a waste of time imo.

built with QED hi-flow valves, dual springs, bronze guides, just need to clean up behind back of guides and then measure for shims

Inlets

got bottom end back from being balanced. expecting some sorter work to be done for £120...all i got was 3 holes in the back of my flywheel...robbing bastards msl:

got a mini head to port for mate, so instead of cash ill just get parts off him instead so can build bottom end up

ur all gay. lmao

im only putting pics up coz you lot keeping bugging me! lol

how the car was in october last year. ALL it wanted was engined bolting in, and wiring up.

then one night after getting fired up on red rooster and lucozade i decided id cut the boot floor out. got pics on fone but not loaded the floor cutting etc but these will give you an idea of whats been done.

had to put new bulkhead in:

starting to put metal back in!

Engine in. its solid mounted at mo, but decided to cut mounts so can make some poly bushed mounts, otherwise im either going to kill the car or the engine. niether i want to do.

engine in my conservatory after knocking my outhouse down.

looks quite standard from the rear tbh

rear discs are 256mm corsa solids off a 1.2 and wilwoods calipers as they have the handbrake facility on them. ive used disc that big so caliper would fit on bracket at back. but the whole pad is in contact with the discs, so should be enoguh, mr2's, mgfs etc use quite abit smaller brake wise on the rears.

was hoping to have it done months ago, but due to family illness, my outgoings doubled to £1500 a month. so as can see slow progress now. gear linkage is now done and feeling very good tbh. just going to be odd getting used to them for first couple of weeks.

hoping to get radiator and fan in next couple of weeks, so i can make my mounts for that. decided to work front - back on the car. also original dash/loom is back in, but need lengthening to go arouns the engine and run around the front space frame.

as said they are more pics, showing abit more progress but ill update in a few more months lol, engine maybe also be forsale if get good offer. as tempted to go a dif route with the car engine wise obv

this week, had 2 engine builds and 4 heads to get ported lol + my garden to sort.

got front shockers now and got some 185lb springs off a mate for now to try. may of sorted radiator out so can make mounts. and had bushes made/fitted into the front hubs for the track rod ends to bolt up from top and not bottom....cost me £120 for the 2 bushes

boots bin scrapped and the drivers door. cant get pass door off yet though as cant open it wide enough to get bottom pin out as mates escort is on stands next to mine.

front lights are in, and plugged up, so i can lengthen the loom this week, and soon as got door off i can get cracking with the firewall and finish welding up my gear linkage

will get pics of everything this week. just dont like updating a little bit at a timelmao

ive been playing with cars since i was 12 so 10years fucking about witrh them. the car went down to my mates who build autograss chassis's, so he had all the tubing, pipe bender, wishbones etc to hand, so not too bad to do, as long as you know how to keep the strength in the tubing.

i really should of flat floored it, but its stil got chassis number and plates so easy to mot

yeah the mk2 is my mates but its a 4door with an xe i built for him last year, shold be going for mot next week or too, its funny because of how ratty it looks at the minute, shold be tidy once in paint though

a lad on migweb said he was doing what i was doing, then got to page 4 and saw the space frame
