Does anyone know how stable the jail broken software is for 4.1 and if it unlocks the phone to any network? Reason I ask is that I'm in the states atm and iPhone 4's are much cheaper here but you can only buy them sim free locked to AT&T. Just wondered if it's a safe bet to get one and jailbreak it as I read a bit about the latest jailbreak not being very stable or reliable. Plus I know they're bringing out OS 4.2 soon.

I have used my iPhone 4 jbed and unlocked and it's perfect. Not sure what you mean about stable? As they function the same. 4.2 is due out very soon and from most reports will be jail broken and unlocked not long after launch.

I used greenpois0n, they are all very similar and unless you need to preserve baseband etc just stick with greenpois0n or limera1n.

cool, thanks man.I'll go into the apple store in the next couple of days and give it a go. In what cases would I need to preserve my baseband?

So you reckon it sounds likely I'll be able to unlock the at&t iphone and use it in the UK with my tesco mobile sim?Sorry for all the questions

jailbreaks dont unlock the phone, jailbreaks give you acces to be able to unlock the phone.

Not quite sure what you mean by "go into the apple store and give it a go", they wont help you

I'd advise people to wait a little longer on a better 4.2 jb the redsn0w one has been okay for me but I can see how it could go wrong if you don't know what you are doing, got a phone to fix yday that had crashed and someone had attempted an iTunes restore over the top of the custom firmware that redsn0w installled ended up well and truly stuck in recovery mode loop took me 3 hours to get it out.

Right, jailbreaking was easy but Cydia got stuck downloading packages. It would work but I decided I didn't want it. So I did a restore... But Cydia was still there afterwards. I didn't know how to remove it so rejailbroke it and used cydelete... Cydia failed to uninstall but disappeared from springboard.

I then restored it again but it won't boot unless I tether it! And cydelete is still there too

Absolute nightmare!!

I'm going to try and restore it again using an older backup. Any advice?

Mine is: don't bother! It's buggy as shit. At least wait for a new version.

Just done a restore in recovery mode

Heard an untethered version should be released Christmas Eve.
