Car needs respraying, and i just wondered if its worth getting arches and skirts blened at the same time. I have been quoted 800quid for the spray job, 1100 for the whole lot. I can afford it but is this a worth while mod.
What do you reckon?

so u don think the arches should get blended in????
how likely is it to crack?
im getin a kit fitted, once place wanted £600, another £700 which was the kit plus blendin the arches, fitin a top spoiler, door handles sprayed also.
for the extra £100 sounded worth it, is blending the arches that wrong?
anyone got ne pics that show them blended

if u want smooth arches then u need new metal arches welded in. Filler will crack with time. I'm gonna get full metal ones made up at the end of this year. Totally custom shaped and will NEVER crack.

Well, look at all the work i had done. Excluding the bonnet, i only paid £1400.

I'd say, dont bother doing it. With GSi's, the best thing u can do it 16"s, new rear bumper, maybe new skirts, keep it suble and spend all the money on the engine, suspension etc.

I've had my sideskirts and arches blended in for a year now and there aint a crack anywhere. Maybe it depends on who does them as to whether they crack or not. Had mine done at MSM Scunthorpe 01724 733300 and I think the car looks very nice and very smooth. But each to their own. I'd put a pic on but I dont know how to. try this tho

smegs to it!! go for it mate. come to think of it my skirts are glass fibred on with a skimming of filler, and hasn't cracked. just make sure they put fibre glass in aswell as filler. it'll make it stronger and wont flex like it would with filler.

yeah but ur sills flex as u drive around corners etc so the best way to smooth in skirts is to seal them from below with say windscreen bond and then a skim of filler ontop of that.because the f/glass is rigid it may crack.

Doesnt seem a bad price mate in comparison to the work I had done and the total price. MSM gave their assurance that the work they had done wouldnt crack under 'normal' driving conditions (which is the way I drive lol)
and they said they would rectify any cracks that came through that way. But at the mo, I have no cause to complain. the photos in my album were taken the week after the work had been done and they are no different now and thats about a year. Just to point out aswell, that until recently, I was using my corsa for work and I can do AT LEAST 1000, YES, 1000 miles per week. So I covered round about 50,000 miles last year and no cracks have come through yet. I wouldnt call that normall driving conditions either lol.
I still say tho, that it will depend on the quality of workmanship as to how the arches wear. If you can get to Scunthorpe, I'd say take it there. No worries.

They won't crack if done right mate. Too many people use too much filler. They need to be bonded properly with fiberglass but mainly the resin. I know a few bodyshop owners and one uses a boat bonding. Bright yellow but you can punch it, kick it whatever and it'll never crack. I've seen cars come back with smoothed skirts that have hit them and dented the car rather than crack the joins. In my opinion 1100 sounds too cheap. I can't say alot for cheap bodyshops but you generally get what you pay for. Some places ask for £2500 like route 66 bodyworx! But it's quality gaurenteed mate.
