Just the price really. Not many people (including me) can see the point in spending thousands on a re-spray when the car only cost £1000. And realistically your not going to get any of it back when you come to sell it!

They aint as common but you can get nicer colours as standard these days - ie Arden Blue, ST Orange so not as much need for them.

I had a full respray back in the day, Aurora Purple FTW

The reason I had it done is that I always felt let down at shows etc when I saw a car up close which I really liked either from a Mag or on here/other sites and the paintwork and general workmanship was terrible. I spent a fortune on getting mine looking nice and there was no way I wanted it spoiling by looking like it was sprayed with rattle cans.

Disagree, magazines took it completely over the top. People became more interested in sticking as much tat to their cars as possible and scrimping on the workmanship. I spent a fortune on my Corsa, but by some standards it had very little done, it was just done properley, I could have done far more to it with amount I spent on getting things done to a high standard. Nowadays the few modded cars I do see look awful. Rarely see a nice paintjob and this Rat look bollocks is awful.

Every since "detailing" came about, folk have realised theyre car just needs a good clean and not a re-spray.

All these products available now-a-days can bring the paint work up to better than factory finish.

Aye, but most of the re-sprays years back were a totally different colour..

I.e

Daves C4
Petes C3
Donnas
Andys

etc...

out of interest, are any of these cars still about? like people say, kitted cars are a rare sight these days.

OEM is definately more popular these days

C4 is dead Pulled out on a biker and wrote the car off.

C3 is dead Pete gave that away due to huge debts, then it was stripped.

Donnas is very much alive Not kicking, but it will be.

Andys is also dead Been sold to too many wippets who ruined it. Ended up being stripped and scrapped.

In fact, mine went to the scrappers too.

Is it just me or are more people focusing on power over looks these days too?

Also as said when a corsa is 3-4 years old, a respray cost 1 or 2k is ok. A respray on a 15 year old corsa with 100k on the clock is just stupid.
I would love to get my Ibiza resprayed due to the colour fade (not enough UV protection in lacquer, so paint itself fades under clearcoat) and the billion stone chips, but just getting the front end sorted and a few other little bits is 800quid at mates rates!
