Cheers Matt.

Had a wee play about with it tonight. Fitted the fuel pump, plugged in the ECU, AFM, temporarily bodged the fuel pipes and it fired. Shut it off straight away though as it was about 930 and I still need to sort an exhaust of some kind.

More tomorrow.

Right then. Cutting it fine but......

Wired up

Old and new front suspension

old

new

Gears found, fluids in and back on the deck

Just need to pick up the exhaust from Ivan tomorrow after he modifies it slightly, bung on the battery then it's out for a test drive.

Insured it with Flux for £404. All mods declared, 5 k mile limited policy, drive any other car, like for like mods.

MASSIVE thanks to Ivan for all the work he has put in.

OK. Wee update. I was out getting the engine number for insurance and DVLA purposes and decided to take a pic of the random plug that we came across as it doesn't have a home on the loom. Help thread here

Decided that I am going to be removing the exhaust part that connects to the downpipe so that I can get one made up with a better flange. Considering adding a flexi into the mix too.

Will also be re-aligning the gearshift at some point soon then adjusting the track rod ends by eye until I can book it in to get the tracking done properly. While the wheels are off I will wind down the coilovers a wee bit too then fit the rear suspension.

Plugged in the crank sensor so fingers crossed that will put out the EML. Should also make it easier to start.

Went to see about getting an exhaust made too. Will mean that everything from the block to the tail pipe is stainless except the flanges

It will be a nice 2 box system with cat.

Good read and some good progress!

Shame about the astra, remember seeing it when I was briefly on mk3oc and MIG web. Il know to look out if I see this "merit" going about!

Maiden voyage has just been completed! All is well apart from

A noisy tappet or two which have now quietened down
Tracking (that was fun when pressing the throttle)

Other than that it's just a couple of minor tweaks here and there.

WOOOOOP!

I'm going to get some engine flush and get that in, then out and pop some fresh oil and a filter on it. Bit loathed to do that though as it had new oil after the engine was put in.

<insert tight scotsman comment>

Welding. Just need to tidy up the insides as a very kind sole undersealed all the underside for me.

The cert

Wee leak

Should have it home fairly soon. Then it's a case of borrowing an engine support bar, belt kit and water pump. I'm also going to change the bluey/green belt and cam covers for plain ones while we are in there.

few bits and bobs to do before it sees a track but I will be there.

OK, fairly productive afternoon.

Whipped the drivers seat out again to clean up the welded patches where the 2 drain plugs had rotted out then gave them a quick skim of body filler ready for painting the rest of the inside. No pics of this yet though.

Noticed a puddle in the boot. Seems that changing the rear cluster didn't help the leak so I whipped it off, gave the surfaces a clean up and ran some silicone round it. Hopefully that cures it.

Bought a pair of flame pink mirrors from ArchieFrew so decided I'd get those fitted. After putting the glass back into the casing I whipped off the old ones and fitted them

The GSi rear ARB was next for some love. Out came the cordless grinder I bought from Aldi and it was given a clean up then a lick of red hammerite.

Tomorrow will involve a second application of paint to the GSi ARB, a spruce up will be the Cav ARB and a second application of underseal for the welded bits on the underside.

Away to get some scran then head out to the pub for a few beers I think.

Yeah, want to get it on the track at some point but once I've done a few road miles in it first.

Cheers again Archie. I was praying that I didn't crack the glass trying to click the centre part of it into casing.

Need to get the fag lighter wired in so I can use a sat nav when needed.

Good thanks. How's you? Yeah, still got them. In the loft at the minute but I've got a couple of subframes sitting in the garage ready for them to be fitted. Will need a bit of welding done though.
