Don't people get that those style of vents are traditional on fast Fords. And they may look "stuck on", but they are functional i.e. lets warm air escape.

They haven't looked 'stuck-on' in the past though.

In previous incarnations the vents have been designed to follow cues from the lines of the car and have traditionally been recessed or flush.

As a result they have been functional AND inoffensive.

The original items on my car for instance are not unpleasant to look at, yet utterly indispensable at the same time, due to their proximity to the air filter and turbocharger.

The style of vent on this focus look like a generic item from an old Fibresports catalogue that some comedian has positioned on top of the bonnet for a joke.

They are too squared off and sit too proud of the panel to suit.

Something akin to a wider and elongated version of the late Sapphire or Fiesta vent or perhaps something like a NACA duct would have been more appropriate for the shape of this car I think.

I've always thought 4x4 Sapphire vents looked stuck on, JUST like the Focus ones.

Oh no wait, they're flush with the bonnet and look a lot better....

Christ, even the Escort Cosworth bonnet vents looked less 'stuck on' than the Focus ones do.

SVM, I thought previous RS were designed on one of these:

I think you should give this car a chance to prove itself of being capable instead of putting it down just because its not 4WD

I'm sure somebody said the side vents actually are stick on tat (and actually serve no purpose what so ever).

*without sounding jumped up* Seriously how?

I'm agreement with Robin here The VXR-R is nothing more than something thats had suspension bolt ons and a remap and been tested on the back streets of Luton. (Sorry Ollie)

I'm not saying the RS is better but all you can hear are assumptions based on opinions here. I think its pretty safe to say we will have to wait to see the motoring press take on this.

Oh and Ollies yes that Knuckle technology has been around for a while even the Megane diesel 170 runs that set up.

The big problem is like anything on track - it'll come down to the driver.

A Focus RS may beat a Astra VXR on track, a Astra VXR may beat a Focus RS on track. What will it prove though?

My 106 gti can beat a lot of cars on track, but it's not a great car - it's pretty shit really. So unfortunately - this debate will continue probably for ever.

I await OJC claiming his VXR is better than a Focus RS after he passes one on track - but I'd imagine a Focus RS driver claiming the same after they pass a Astra VXR on track.

It will always get a good review irrespective if it's good or not, I'll bet the R26 is every bit as good but as it has those magical two badges on the back 'Ford' & 'RS' it will win everytime.

I'll wait until I've read EVO and they have put it against the R26R, if it's better than the R26R then it will be superb. Until then I won't believe what some journalist who got driven around in a car park says

the r26r is a totally different car, albeit competing in the same category.

the rs is built more for comfort than balls out track action. i know what i'd rather be driving on the road day in day out and it isn't a frenchie.

No, disagree the Focus is EXACTLY in the same category as the R26R.

The R26R can be specced with cut slicks the only difference for the Focus is 4 seats and no roll cage. The R26R is the benchmark for which all hot hatch's should be put against.

Especially 25k FWD performance hatches

PS

I have a Ford RS

i said they were in the same category

i just think that the r26r is more for raw enthusiasts and the focus will be for people who already have the focus st and want to upgrade.

who needs perspex windows and climbing frames anyway

i too believe the r26r will be a better car when put up against the focus, the focus is a heavyweight compared to the featherweight r26r.
