Would save time for us lot too, but ya know, we like to do it the hard way How much time you reckons on that Ste? For strip, all the panel, and re-fit after paint? Or how much would you get at your place?

holy shit??

my estimate is typical of my work, i wasnt really counting the inner 1/4 as its not a full inner, only a little section.

Our times are deadly, for instance to pull anything no matter what its like they give an hour, all straight fit 1/4s are anything from 5 to probably around 8 hours

i have a suzuki to do its a funny thing beginning with an L

been hit on p/s front, top and legs are accross, ite getting a flitch, inner wing, wing, bonnet, lamps, front panel (maybe just headlamp panel, cant rem) panel has got 6 hours

Its a joke aint it, thats a good time on the BMW, but other times are just getting shocking!! Like really bad, its shite, done a 6 hour quarter repair yesterday on a VW Sharran, hit that hard on the quarter the inner was battered aswell, what are you supposed to do for 6 hours, big hammer and a lot of filler, thats all it got lol.

tbh 6 hours was probably the best time the estimator could get for a 1/4 repair rather than going for a new 1/4.

seems to be theres not much work around as usual this year and in my work and others i know there fixing scrap to keep us with work..

yeah your bmw is amazing time, my mate done one recently rear panel, 1/4, rear door and tailgate and pulling obv. ill ave to ask him to see if he can remember what time he got for that one. ha didnt need any inner section and im not sure about the wee side floor section..

40 hours on that, crazy!

but tbh if i was the panel beater i wouldnt complain.

do you both work on bonus, were just going onto it at work but with my place were very small, me and a nother guy and then boss doews major panel work so we do all strip and fit, panel and paint so get some good hours if u work hard.

also thos clamps are pricey for bmw`s, at my old place the caroliner ones we had as they were bought cos we were bmw approved were a stupid amount for what seems a very basic design.

also love the commebnt about the pictures been taken as i used to but now i can never be bothered, paint quite a few astons, rollers, high end stuff and still dont bother with pics, there all the same and get the same job from us.

Didnt think you could get bmw approval with a caroliner? a bmw fixed on a caroliner will void its warranty. bmws have to be fixed on a bracket jig to keep the warranty.

we dont work on a bonus but have a weekly effeicency chart on the wall and they want us (metal workers) running at 125% painters 165% and strip/fitters 105%. We get all the poor parts of bonus and non of the gd points..

apprentices also have to be 50%

@andy, i asked my mate today but numbnut can hardly even mind fixing the bloody thing let alone the time lol

it was a bracket system where the car is totally in the air but the jog was made by caroliner?

is that helpfuyll at all?
also had a scissor lift that was also part of the jig that you could use to clamp a car down.

do you get good times on your jobs as our are hit and miss, i currently have 5 cars in thew work shop masked up ready to be paintied 2morow due to not being able to get in today till 5 and i finish at 5.30, managed to paint a bumper still though

also i was looking at going to a big bodyshop for the experience as wouldnt mind just painting for a bit instead of doing it all?

do you know what roughly a painter is on at ur place?

big bodyshop is the way forward in this trade in my opinion. ONly bad thing is that big places will pay off quickly in hard times such as recession.

big places have better pay, better holidays, conditions and better work. small garages around here repair scrap all day long, fit second hand panels etc dont have the proper equipment. we do 95% insurance work and have 5 benchs, 4 ovens all proper equipment etc. we only get new parts generally and most are genuine etc altho for a painter i suppose thats immaterial

a painter in my work is on around 340 per week bring home pay

altho one thing i suppose is anyone in a bigger place is under a load more pressure than in a small garage with times/effiecencies etc

Our times are so shit its unbeleivable. 206 headlamp panel, new plastic front panel, bonnet one wing and 2 new lamps. no pulling theres 1.5 hours panel time on it. panel time is pathetic in majority of jobs and its non negotiable unless repair panels opinon times. paintwork is non negotiable, what the computer says goes

the place i work at is avery small but we use genuine new panesl all the time, unless on the classics then we get them hand made ( a hell of alot of money )

thankfully we dont get many crap cars due to prices we charge and the reputation we have.

DB5 that is going out on friday, full shell, bare metal £17,000, yup thats £17k but then again he is a partner of Momo so hoping for sum free stuff aswell

and that time example there is pretty bad.

another thing is really paintwork in a big place is like a production line, speed is the key. for instance a respray in my work is basically prep n blend and grey scotch the car or equivalent etc. thats not a respray imo, not taking out imperfections such as previous peel etc
