You are better off buying a fubar'ed LET with a solid block, then have it re-built.

Look around on ebay and vauxhal forums like MIG, one will come up.

I have to ask, do you know what you are doing? because IMHO if you have to ask the question you might be under-estimating what is involved.

I'd like to think i know what i'm doing. I am a mechanic. Just never worked on vauxhalls...had a turbo corsa a couple of years back....It's more a project for me to do.

i would just buy a LET less hassle tha putting the turbo on, changing the pistons for the compresion and all that

dont buy a full xe! buy a bottom end for a ex on its own! then get a coscast head with no valves or bent one and work from there because the rest of it get binned really!

i think people are getting confused with a turbo xe (which to me is a xe, with xe compression, and a spacer plate, xe managment)

and a LET, which is using an xe block as its base

The Xe into a LET route is a real pain and wont work out cheaper imo. By the time you've sourced the LET parts you need plus the cost of the XE engine you'll be over the cost of a LET engine.

What are you planning to do with it?

I have two C20LET engines for sale, in the car running, both freshly rebuilt, one standard, one low comp'd with a T34

If you are planning on rebuilding it then start with an XE.Rebuilding an XE with new LET parts will work out a tad more than buying an old LET and not rebuilding it.So the safer bet would be the XE.And if u can do all the work yourself,then itl be a doddle.

Buying an XE and turboing it with 2nd hand LET psitons etc will just work out the same as buying an old LET.At least if u do the XE,you know what your working with when its apart.

Think big.....

End of the day, if your tuning a C20LET, you have to change all this lot anyway, so why use a £1500 engine to start with when you can use a £200 engine...

ALL of those part, plsu more need replacing anyway, so actually in the long run it is the better idea to use a C20XE..

All huge hp LET's were originally C20XE's anway, the SA Corsa, the SA Mk2 Astra etc.....

Personally if we are talking about a full custom build, I'd start with a X20XEV, stronger than a XE and a LET.

I will add to throw a spanner in the works.
I know of a XE running stock internals (standard XE pistons) running 20PSI of boost which is has made some good proven time

Turbo engine are -
Low compression - High Boost Levels
High compression - Low Boost Levels

would that be Neils Yellow GTE??IF so,then its amazing how that thing runs.Still on XE management too iirc.
