and finally, at what age did you start?
I'm considering starting mine, wouldnt be too much each month and getting a pay rise so probs wouldnt notice. My work will match whatever i pay in plus a bit more. I'm guessing the earlier the better?

No-one should avoid any where the emploter pays in above 5% IMO
Last 3 companies have been
(Ees, Ers)
5% and 13.6% (final salary)
5% and 15.9% (final salary)
5% and 7.5% (defined cont'n  )

started when i was 16 and put in7% of my weekly wage.
company matches that and adds 3% on top extra
only 23 now but i get a cash lump sum when im 50 and they pay me a weekly pension at 65

Im 26 & havnt ever had one 
However with my new job im hoping to get a non contributery final salary pension, if I can get 25yrs or so out of them that is :\
Another idea of mine is to get a second home, rent it out to pay the mortgage & hopefully this will bring me more income than a pension would.

If I had my head screwed on the right way round I would have started a pension plan. Sounds a good idea

No, its a tax deductible cont'n so you only pay 78% of whatever u pay (i.e if you pay 5% then you'll only actually pay 3.9% with the givt making up the rest)
In addiiton if you contract out then the govt tops up your pension once a year

tbh if you know youre not gonna have to worry about it when youre older then thats fair enough. I dont think i will need to but i dont want to rely solely on inheritance
