i jnow this is considered a bad idea, but was just wondering if any has ever cut there front springs? and what was the outcome?

205tom did this with his 205, cut 3 coils of with a grinder and has never had any problems at all

The only problem it caused was to the 4 hacksaw blades I used to cut 4 coils out.

I have recently cut some springs on my 306 to see how low it would go. It drives really well surprisingly but it creaks and bangs like fuck. Already borrowed my mates spring compressors to put it back to how it was.

Deadly. I genuinely had no issues with my car after doing it. If anything it drove better afterwards.

had a scoob that had the springs chopped looked and handled good but it used to go funny when it got jacked up

looking at my front springs the top 4 coils are identical, if i cut one off i cant see the problem? obviously a harder ride but im fine with that.

its only just occured to me that i wudnt even have to cut i whole coil off could just cut half off to lower a few extra mm.

By doing it your weakening the spring, and the springs are shaped to sit in the strut properly, by cutting the spring down you increase the chance of the spring jumping out.

Im sure loads of people have done it and not had problems, but it all depends if your too much of a tight-cunt to do it properly and potentially risk your life doing it.

it wouldnt affect the shape though as the rubber mount can twist to allow it to sit on the coil no matter where it is

I think every1 has done it in the past.Ive done it years ago but only 1coil.Never had any problems.
I wouldnt advise it on a C20XE corsa or the likes and i wouldnt do it again.
Ud get away with 1 coil off 40s,personally i wouldnt do any more.

Heat ius what ruins the spring, so cutting them with acetelyne is a bad idea, you won't weaken the spring with a saw/grinder though.

Also, if the spring seats are shaped, not flat, they will seat in exactly the same way as before, so theres no problems with them jumping out of the spring seats.

People have been doing this for absolutely years and I've never, ever seen evidence of someone being injured from it, or crashing, just a load of people saying that it's bad with no actual proof.

It's not ideal, but it's not as bad as people make out.

Basically, if your going to be a pikey and do it then fire away, but dont come back whinging when your shockers are fucked or (more likely) you've stacked it into a hedge...

It won't fuck up your shocks any more than a set of "proper" lowering springs though.

You have issues with springs falling out on certain cars if they're 60mm ones, so again, no worse doing it this way, IF you do have an issue with them staying seated
