why not a bora? cheaper than golf to buy cheaper to insure same handleing and with a few mods can look just as good

they are really nice cars but i don't think they are very sporty tbh

Correct. And for £5k you'll struggle to find a decent one. The best Corsa diesel you'll get is the 1.7DTi engine, which can be remapped. Steinmetz do one

A mapped Golf GTTDI would give alot of performance cars a run for there money.

Same goes for the Polo, Passat etc.

I'd rather have a sporty quick diesel than a Corsa tbh.

I assume your not talking about his corsa?

But then all that does it make it about as quick as the cdti!

tuning boxes on the 1.7 cdti see about 125ish bhp and give 1.8 runs for their money

iirc GSi_16v didn't see a great deal of BHP, but quite an increase in torque.

Golf GT TDI 150 then get a revo chip to take it to 190bhp!

I raced one a while back in my Civic 1.6 VTI VTEC. I kept up with it sort of, but the golf tdis are so torquey it left me in the end

we ALWAYS disagree.

By the best, I meant in his price range although 1.7 CDTi's are coming down in price

Fair enough. 1.3's are good prices now, but not normally good specs. I.e. SXi and SXi+ are still pricey.
