He bought a 1.3 G reg escort last year with 5 months tax and 11 months test for £50.
It's never, ever failed to start, cheap on petrol. He's spent £20 on some springs and £20 on some wheels.
Perfect for mooching about back and too from work.
Ideal for scrambling to work & back!!

Golf been unreliable - in 2 crashes. I can always get a lift or borrow a new car for a couple days.
If its serious i have cash waiting to buy another banger!
fair enough then, your sorted, a bange looks like the way forward to you, id guess you can trust newer cars more, i understand alot do break down but they cant be all bad

i keep the bmw for best and use a 99 plate corsa 1.2 16v for work
paid 650 for it 2.5 years ago, done 35k in it, and would get 650 back for it again now
spent 100 or so on it, oil, back box, got free set of tyres, sport seats and a cd player

aswell as my evo i have a 1.1 clapped out fiesta.......i keep telling myself the evo has to go but i just can't do it. it would be the sensible option as when fiesta just been of road for a week for mot i put in £180 of fuel in 9 days
if you have the heart to do it then do but every journey i do in the fiesta that is soul destroying i think of getting in the nice one to play

Been thinking of doing this myself. Only takes me 5 mins to get to work in a morning, so was thinking of getting a small, old skool turbo'd car. Been looking at punto gt turbos, always liked them, and i think now is the time to do something daft and get one

It sounds good in theory but if you ended up with a dog then repairs could be more than you paid for it!
I for 1 would not be making a motorway commute of 600 miles a week in a car that cost 250!

Go for the scrapper!
Can thrash it to your hearts content whilst knowing if it breaks you don't have to fix it. Constant wheeling and dealing of cars is more fun. Often cheaper in the longrun than maintenance of a more worthy car.
You can always buy a nicer car when you're old, rich and famous.

Im liking the idea of being able to not give a shit, thrash the living daylights out of it & generally not give a shit.
Jade thinks im bonkers for wanting to give up a nice car

I think your bonkers cos iirc the reason you sold the 1st golf was because you wanted a 'reliable' car to get you to and from work everyday

I paid 10k for my car, thrash it and generally don't give a shit about it
It's a bonus if it's still got windows when i come back.
I like the thought of having a nice reliable car that i don't spend my life worrying about. It pays for itself at the end of the day.
I'd love a nice sporty car. Just don't have the funds to change my day to day car every few years and run a second car. That's life though.

You can buy a reliable car for £2000 though...most 306 HDI's if looked after can be very reliable...
Wouldnt chance the mileage your doing on a £500 car...
