how do they make them that colour?

are they painted? powder coated? what?

my alloys have been sprayed to a good finish from a bodyshop but they chip easily, what is my best bet to get them durable like oz's and that colour

I'd imagine it's powdercoat, if not, it'll be paint with about 17894 layers of lacquer.

Who for OZ? I went on their UK site & there are no contact numbers for them directly.
That was the email I got back from Prodrive.

No problem, just took this from their site

'The wheel at this stage passes on to the painting department. It is painted with epoxy powders and then with a metallic finish. As an alternative to painting, forged aluminium wheels are anodized using a special electro-chemical treatment'

Ring Prodrive and see if you get the same answer as I did
I can't find a direct contact number for OZ though, which would obviously be the best way to find out

This is what I have been told, when asking the same questions.
Powdercoating is not the best solution on wheels. Powdercoating can be very strong, but it dosn't bind to the subject, so even the smalest hole can result in masive flaking.

Powdercoated wheels will have to be treated with a clear lacquer to ensure they don't flake. The quality and thicknes of lacquer is an important factor.

Epoxy is a bi-component spray coating that is often used on floors and large industrial machinery due to the high durability. It's expensive though, and not something your everyday bodyshop can do.
