He has managed to get the fuel tank mounted this weekend.

Had to make a base for the tank to sit on as the boot floor is far from flat. Then he set about bending some straps up for the tank.

Hamish also made a template for the firewall so it can get bent full size on a folder. Should be able to get it folded this week so i can weld it in next weekend.

The pannels are also due in the next 2 weeks so that should be a good day! He has also managed to get his hands on a full drivetrain from an early turbo UR Quattro. Should be good for the 600bhp!

Got the tunnel chopped and changed around today to accept the S1 shifter.

He had to modify the hole for the rod first. It then had to be welded further up the tunnel so the s1 shifter rod could work. Both the shifter and the handbrake now have captive nuts welded to the underside of the plate to bolt them down.

Well the best day of the build so far! The pannels have arrived. Everything is there bar the rear wings which will be here soon. He got them from a different place as wanted the rally swb wings rather than the ones on the road going swb as they are different!

also, just a random thought, that i'm sure you'll have checked up on already.
Is it going to be narrow enough with it's new track to get back down to terra firma?
didn't look like there was a massive amount of room to play with in narrow form.

He's planning on doing a few sprints / hill climbs with it, not sure what else, track days embarassing most things that try its luck on the road

Plenty room, and all the panels will be removed, as when the car comes down its away for blasting the the shell will live closer to the ground

Carbon roof vent is here. Should help with letting some air in and cooling the inside a bit!

Hamish and Jamie have been putting the firewall in, Just needs a final strengthener in now and fully welded! Looking much more like a car now! Anyhu, the pictures:

Carbon roof vent:

...and from behind

A few close ups of the strengtheners!

Rear wings have also arrived! They look a good quality mould. Going to require a lot of metal to be cut off the car to get them to fit, shouldn't take too long once the grinder is fired up:

A few more pics of whats been going on and what has arrived!

Folded a piece up to cover the remaining bit of the old firewall as it was slightly unsightly:

Then he cut the sills and rear arches off.

The fuel swirl pot turned up last week from Pro Alloy. Hand made one off and is a real work of art! Also managed to get the last set of sport quattro headlights in the UK!

He has also made a start scraping the underseal off. What a great job that is, not!

He managed to get the rear wings to sit right, so put 3 big self tappers in to hold them in place:

Some inner rear arches bent:

Then a pair of new sills bent up:

Then they got some axle stand mounts welded into them, with some strengthening spars. There are also 2 metal pads to go underneath each sill as jacking points, although with the cage it will probably jack up on just the front one.

The front pipe is going to end up being linked into the cage mount:

They arn't so far off being finished, just the jacking points to weld on.

They will go underneath the strengtheners for the axle stand mounts so it should be nice and solid!
