A comprehensive cage indeed.

Is the design one of his own creation or is it a replica of the original works' cars' cages?

The original works cage is a bit dated to say the least now

So he's just made it up in his head and gone with one of the designs, should be finished up today

All the tubes are cut now! A bit more welding and a bit of tidying and it will be done!

Sorry been away so haven't posted his updates lately:

All the cage has now been welded. A few welds need a tidy up and he needs to cut a couple of holes in the roof to weld across the tops of some tubes.

He has cut plates to attach the cage to the A and B pillars to stiffen the shell. They are now welded in and look pretty good I think.

Finished the work on the rear pannel which has been an epic. Cut the centre section out as its different to the pannel seen on the rally cars. He wont be running a rear bumper like the rally cars so that pannel is the back of the car. Then set about welding up the remaining holes on the rear panel. This lead to discovering a bad repair from what looks like a rear ender. They had used about 10mm of filler in one spot! So it was out with that piece as well and made a new piece and welded it in.

Then decided to cut some nice big holes in the freshly repaired rear pannel to let some air out of the boot for when the rad is in there!

There was some rust in this area so it was replaced also.

A few more shell repairs left to do. The boot floor is to make and the cowling for the rad. Then once my rear wings arrive i can sort out the rear arches and make some new sills, Hopefully the shell will be at the blasters in a couple on months!

Fuel tank has arrived.

ATL jobbie, foam filled, FIA certified, 60 litre capacity.

Means he can see where everything will fit into the boot space now and get the new fire wall made up.

Today saw the boot floor being finished which invloved making the rad frame and plating around it so parts of the fuel system and the battery can be mounted there. Pictures are in a random order, but you can see what they are!

Yeh me and Hamish met the guy (one polishing his bootlid) that owns it at Ultimate Dubs this year was very friendly and helpful!

Same style of car, but Hamish will be running 600-700bhp, (think one in picture is about 400bhp) very little interior and more motorsport, used and abused than a show car like above!

Very last bits of cage in. Well he said it was the end of the car last time but this time it realy is. (Maybe!)

It all needs welded up yet and the upright tubes need leveled off.

It is in there to add some lateral strength accross the car and also to strengthen up where the rear subframe bolts to.

A couple of cheeky pics of the shifter in position.
