Hamish managed to get the car painted a couple of weeks ago and got it all back together for ED38.

He also managed to get a set of the BBS E50 wheels built up for the show. Had the barrels blasted to clean them up and got hold of 4 x 3" dishes to fill the arches nicely. Big thanks to Mark Ikeda and Matty Loveridge for the dishes! They are bolted together with titanium bolts to keep the weight right down! They are now 10" with a set of the slicks on that came with them.

Great weekend at the show very chilled out with no trouble.

Hamish ran the car yesterday at a local event on an airfield. The surface is very poor so its hard to get any decent times. Had the slicks on looking to make the most out of the surface. Managed to get a couple of good launches which gave a 1.6 60 foot time. Best time was 11.10 @ 126mph. He was hoping to be well into the 130mph terminals as there was a good tail wind. So he checked the logs and was only getting 1.8 bar. Checked the engine over and no holes in the boost pipes or any loose connections. So was pretty happy to be almost into the 10's at 1.8 bar. Once it gets back up to 2.2 bar sure it will go well into the 10's with a decent surface.

Thats it for the year now. Needs to sort an oil leak on the front plate and fit a breather tank to the crankcase. Apart from that just the cambelt, and dry sump belt to change and its good for next year which is a nice position to be in!

He also made a camera mount to get some onboard videos. Its 5mm alloy bolted to the B pillar/ main hoop of the cage. Shows just how much the car vibrates with the solid mounts! Got way too much wheel spin and had to lift out in 1st. He will be getting launch control set up for next years racing!

From what I understand you can buy different size dishes and barrels to make say
e.g
7" barrel with 3" dish
7.5" barrel with 2.5" dish

Or whatever size you want overall.

Hamish has been doing a little work on this whilst the cage tubing is away being bent for the other car.

At the end of last year the engine was running fine bar being down on boost had had a developing oil leak from the front plate. Had the front of the engine in bits anyway to change the cam belt and dry sump belt as he does every year, so pulled the front plate off. It was leaking where the oil is fed into the main gallery. The engine runs 85psi of pressure so its no wonder it had come past the gasket. Hopefully cured this by having the plate machined for an O ring. He forgot to take any pictures and fingers crossed wont get the chance to any time soon!

The next job to sort was adding a catch tank to the crankcase. It was open to the atmosphere with a rubber flap covering it but it had been letting a little oil out so it needed sorting properly. First job was to machine a new blanking plate with a -12 fitting pushed in.

He bought a Moroso catch tank as it was exactly what he was after and came with a nice clamp:

Plate in place on the block and a little bracket made to hold the tank:

Breather in place:

Also on the picture he added a shut off valve to the oil feed. When the car was sitting for long periods it would gradually drain the entire oil tank into the engine. This will only be shut off when parked up for long periods. Also thinking of adding a switch to the lever for the ecu power so it cant run if the valve is off.

Added a larger brake pedal to the Tilton pedal box. He was finding it hard with such a small pedal (it was the same size as the others) to get enough pressure on. Was going to make his own but just before Christmas Tilton made their own, obviously others have had the same issue.

Next was the low boost issue. At the last event he suspected it had sheared the boost controller wire when the alternator was throwing belts. However when he inspected it at the event could only find this damage which hadn't cut through it:

When he got it off the car for a closer look further up the wire was rubbed clean through:

So he has pieced a bit of wire back in and it will be back up to proper boost!

Has replaced the cam cover bolts which were stainless button heads with titanium cap heads. He couldn't tighten the button heads enough and it was seeping a little oil, oh and they look cool!

So the engine is all back together and hopefully should be fluid tight again fingers crossed! He is looking forwards to getting some use out of it this year!

Not sure if it's of interest but There is a thread over on mig - "what I find in scrapyards thread" and there appears to be a clean looking Audi 80 laid up for breaking. Might be worth contacting the thread owner and asking where the yard is?

Hamish had the car out at Ultimate dubs a couple of weekends ago. A good weekend and came away with another trophy which is always nice!

Came across a few very nice photos:

Hamish decided it was time to get the car on the road so it could be used without having to trailer it and drive big distances to venues/ shows.

First job was to fit the old Mercedes wheels back on as didn't fancy risking one of the sets of BBS wheels on the road. He got a set of Bridgestone SO2's fitted to the Merc wheels which should be a good road trye and act as a wet tyre for any racing in the future.

The car was then taken down to Keith Edwards motors at Ulverston for an MOT. That enabled him to tax it for the first time!

So its been on the road for a week now and has been doing a few small trips in it. All seems good so far. He fitted a centre mirror as the side mirrors are pretty useless! Also fixed up and re-fitted the rear radiator scoop as it wasn't cooling efficiently without it.

So he's hoping to rack up a few trouble free miles now and enjoy the nice weather!
