Well, I wanted to swap it for a diesel 3 Series... that became a 3 Series Coupe and then I saw that M3 yesterday and realised how mint they could be... even the exhausts looked factory, now having seen the choice I am deffo fancying one

Will cost less than the Coupe even tho the runnign costs will be huge...

Awesome car, dad has one, totally recommended!

Quite high running costs though.

Spec is pretty much what you said - the Harmon Kardon hifi is pretty good once you've played with the levels.

His is a 2002 52, so didn't have the facelift LED lights like the 2004 one you looked at has - although dad has had them fitted, wacked a private plate on it, and no-one will know any different Dad's is silver, grey leather, TV, 19's, SMGII etc!

The 19's give a harder ride than 18's, but do look better.

If one tyre needs replacing and you have the tyre pressure indicator, then ALL tyres will need replacing as dad found out. He had a few thousand miles left on them, but had a bulge in 1 tyre.

New engines don't come cheap, about £9k which they told dad when he was debating getting the 1 years warranty you can get.

SMGII, only way to go if you want resale value.

Once you've learnt to use it, it's brilliant to be honest, jerky, but brilliant. You can get around the jerkyness on gear change by lifting the throttle slightly!

The automatic mode is really not worth using. If you forget to change down when in manual mode, it changes down automatically anyway.

Dad has done a track day in a manual car, which he loved but SMGII is just fine.

Dad reckons (and so do I as a passsenger) that his M3 has got faster since we've had it. Buying it on 17k miles (now on 24ish iirc) it seems to have finally bed in he also used to run it on Sainsbury's Super Unleaded, which made it pink a couple of times and not perform well. He has been putting Shell Optimax in it for well over 6 months and it runs sweet as a nut.

The fact the car has got faster is probably to do with a few things. The right petrol (which BMW recommend), knowing how to drive the thing and the engine bedding in.

Don't expect super fantastic things from it the first time you drive it, because it won't happen.

Yes, it's essentially a BMW 3 series coupe, but it is more than some people realise.

The fact some insurers wouldn't insure dad (he's had his licence since 17, now 46, with that many years NCB) tells you what kind of a machine it is.

Oh, dad also has a tracker on his, which, I suppose, is well worth the investment, depending on your postcode etc, but that is like another £200 or so every year!

BMW will normally fit one for you, but make sure it's one that your insurance company approve of

Yeah, electric folding iirc, why? Who said they didn't?

Oh, a cool thing with the mirrors. Put the adjuster switch (for adjusting left or right mirror) to the left, then when you put it in reverse, the mirror moves down so you can see the back end of the car near the kerb, preventing kerbage!
