I remember about a year or so ago a press picture shown in Wax Pow, A 4 wheel drive Astra on the back of a lorry. Still very obviously a prototype but I see plenty of 4x4 Calibre's knockin around so they must have done something right back then. Can't wait to see if they actually bring out a 4x4 VxR Astra!

The Astra VXR engine is more than capable of more power without any kind of internal engine upgrades, 260 to 280bhp with 4x4 would be amazing, athough I feel the car would then become to expensive and wouldn't sell.

As a limited edition, it would be great, like the VXR500 Monaro, or the VXR220, if they made, say 500 of them, numbered them individually and gave them some little exterior touches, they'd be snapped up.

Are you not tempted by an Astra VXR, Ian? Have you driven one?

Nope, would be a Twin Top if I was buying another Astra and I didn't like that because you can't get cream seats and the boot is rubbish.

Just prefer how it looks. Black is boring. The boot was the bigger issue.

Good read that clive

I hope it's as good as they are telling the press

‘The best example I can think of,’ he continues, ‘is a sort of modern Peugeot 205 GTI. The ride is firm yet compliant and when you lift off there’s a contribution to your cornering line from the back end. It’s not tail-happy, but you can certainly feel the rear wheels helping to steer the car. As for the steering itself, it has a sort of kart-like feel. The whole dynamic package, I think, is the best that we’ve yet come up with.’

I'll keep an eye out for one arriving at Evo HQ for testing, and grab some pics

edit - they keep saying it undercuts the Clio 197 by £400, but you can get them for a lot less than list price already, about £14k

Probably just based on list price, dealer discounts / pre-reg etc. isn't really comparing like for like.

I was off yesterday and so were my two mates, one with a broken nose and the other with a broken leg

So we went around all the garages looking at all the new cars out, went to Renault to look at the new Clio and Megane, the Clio looks pants IMO, driving position is to high as well, Megane 230 FI looks awesome though, has the same seats as the Corsa VXR.

Went to look at the Focus ST3, its a nice car but unless you get it in white or orange looks a little bland.

This Corsa VXR is excellent and I reckon will sell by the bucket load.
