anyone have negative rear camber on corsa b's due to suspension fetling etc? seem to go though rear tyres like no ones business, need to adress the problem but not to sure how to go about it. was thinking about making a tapered shim behind the disc hub assembly to correct the camber angle and therefore prevent tyre were on the inside edge. any opinions?

erm...in theory the rear camber shouldnt ever change on a corsa b....as its solid rear beam.

thought by lowering etc it makes the wheels sit at a different angle to the road surface? is this not camber angle?

It does, but only on the front. The rear wheels shouldn't change camber.

The rears are like this: -



This is a solid platform, only the height should change.

The fronts will change camber depending on the height of the spring. A really low spring will have a large effect on camber.

coilovers and 18"s are causing the problem. must have some kind of effect coz the tyre were on each inside edge is even

not height adjustable but since fitting have caused the problem about a year ish ago. only used 40mm spings with the spax shocks coz wont to be able to drive it not avoid every bump in the world!

Very strange. I have the same set up on the rear of mine. Never had an inner edge problem. But, I am on 16's.

May be down to the 18's

maybe you have annother problem.....its not going to be due to lowering......possibly bent rear beam?....
ive known of people fit washers behind the hub to achieve camber before....

surely if rear beam fault would cause uneven wear. only other thing is rear discs were welded to fit hub asembly from astra gte. used a proper kit though but again surely both wouldnt be out the same amount? also had the problem before fitting the discs iirc?

possibly the astra rear beam (which disc set up is designed for) has a natural positive whereas the corsa one doesnt......therefor it will be out.

if your that concerned get it checked out on some camber guages at a tyre fitter.

BUT...just by lowering it, this will not affect rear camber

thinking about it did spin it out a while ago and bounce it up a curb. again had the prob before that iirc. nice bit of parrel parking mind!

not that concerned really drives fine cant tell any difference but its just the cost of a pair of tyres every 6months. someone said a long time ago that wen above 17's you start getting problems. not to sure on the reliabilty of the info but serves me right for having silly wheels aperantly!?

corsas as standard come with -1.5 degree camber on the rear(or there abouts) I had wear on the inner edge on my last corsa and on my current one. Using washers is pikey and not very safe, you want to get yourself some EZ shims which go between the trailing arm and stub axles. You can adjust the camber and toe settings with these.

I bent my rear beam on my corsa from hitting a curb full in the face, back wheels hitting it also.

The arm that comes off the beam bent, seems to be the weakest point. It twisted up and towards the centre of the car, thefroe creating more camber.

Just out of interest, what tyre pressures do you have on the rear?

I'd get under your car and check the angles of the arms that come off the beam, both should slightly raise on the out edges, this is how i noticed mine was bent, one had about 3-5 degrees angle

Pressures are fine, could be the larger wheels, but like i said above, have a look at your rear beam, see if anything looks out of line.

i done that aswell, stub axle was absolutely fucked and to this day im still driving around with two different rear wheel camber settings. As for the shims, i bought a set off ebay but they dont crop up very often unfortunately.

You dont jack the car up off the rear beam by any chance do you? Thats how I bent mine.

i take it the the shims are for one size only? or do you pack it out to suit?

no, the shim is made out of two parts and they rotate, as you can see in the picture there is in inner and outer ring, these rotate so you can adjust the camber and toe settings. They're nothing like wheel spacers.

negative camber on the back is also caused by lowering too much!!! on all the corsa b rally cars (tarmac or gravel) they use the standard settings on the rear, but obviously they arent lowered alot on the bakc so dont get too many problems, either you will have to live with it, higher the car at the back or get it set up properly with the shims (would be expensive to get them fitted and set up!!!)
