After my rebuild I had to drive about 10miles before the lifters went quiet. Idling generally won't sort it. I wouldn't worry until you've taken it for a steady drive mate

i didnt physically measure them dave but they looked ok lol. it was stiff to turn over by hand when it was just a block, but i just put it down to being the new piston rings with the honed bores. i dont have an oil presure light with my ecu so whats the quickest and easiest way to rig one up?

oil light should have nothing o do with the ecu mate, its a physica switch on the block with one wire going to the dash, pull it off an earth it see if it brings the light on

checked the oil light and there isnt even the loom there for it. didnt think i had seen the oil light for a while lol. must get that sorted out.

took the sump off and i think ive found the scrapping noise. removed the sump to inspect the bottom end, accidently dropped my light and it shone on the bottom pulley. there was a mark around the inner face of the pulley where it had been rubbing on something. removed the cambelt cover and its been rubbing on that. will clean out the sump and refit it againt tomorrow nite and try it again. if its quiet then i'll take it for a drive to shut the tappets up!!

did you fill the lifters with oil before fitting them?

how did you check the oil pressure after the rebuild? a oil pressure light is the minimum you need when starting up a freshly built engine, c20xe's tend to take a good 60 secs of cranking to get the oil circulated fully on a fresh pump.
