hehe. this is a crackin pic! The car stomping down to the first bend kicking up all the spray behind...

looks like you guys got a good result from the day anyways! Last year at oulton you said you were struggling to keep the pace wit the leaders, but this year it seems you have managed to sort it out and get up into the results you wanna be seeing!

Good work!

we are running over 100bhp more, but are still about 200 shy of what we'd prob need to match the top cars for outrigt pace

Positive caster will be as long as the track is smooth.

effectivly gives more camber when cornering....

wheels go where they are meant to go, rather than trying to swivel round there centre axis.

Camber stays the same if the pivot (vertically) of the car suspension is zero. EG if you turn the wheel about its axis (steer not spin) it stays the same. BUT if the axis is at an angle (for and aft) then the more you steer the car, the more camber you get!

Its hard to relate, but if you imagine looking at the LHS of the cars wheel, with front to your left, if you grabbed the top of the axis and moved it back (to horizontal) with the wheel position staying still then this is castor, then imagine, if you turned the wheel to the right 90 degrees then the wheel will lay flat, this is obviously an extreme example but best explained.

SO, the more castor the more the wheel will increase negative camber the more you turn the wheel. BUT too much castor and the car will want to wander as it has less tendency to want to point straight ahead.

Boooooo

righto....

Seems to be an issue with this damn car making it to Brands Hatch.

Fee was on track last night testing out the new front end setup. That went well, but the engine didnt agree and seems to have suffered a bit of oil starvation. (AGAIN)

hopefully the engine will be out soon for an initial diagnosis...

Best case - fire a new crank and bearings in...

Its a pretty tall order to get this sorted in under a week though

can here it going in the vid. I might be imagining it, but i think it catches the bearing round carlube/back straight about 2 mins in. Fee didnt notice it till the end of the vid.

http://www.trackscotland.co.uk/vid/18June09/TS4.wmv

Worst case - or unrushed solution.

New crank, big winged sump, poss new oil pump, rebuild the turbos while the engine is out. And see if there is any damage from residual bearing metal on the bores/pistons etc

Putting a couple of feelers out for 'spare' engines to get it back running ASAP, but this isnt Ideal as a stad block is a big step backwards, and a built one will be a big waste of cash, and an unknown to be honest.

Worst Worst case - Fee will be competing at Brands in my Impreza.

PS... i did the exact same just before Brands last year!

its pretty conclusive that its collected a bearing. Just dont know to what extent yet

bottom end knock, very low oil pressure.... seemed to happen on a long sweeping left hander

(just for reference.... i blew a c20xe on this part of track. I ran the bearings in the skyline on the same part. I got valve damage in the white 2.1 corsa on the same part) DOH

So it's a bearing furthest from the oil pump then? Such a shame, poor Skyline

Just assumed that, I'm no wizz with engines so it's just a guess of mine.

Or, is cause the oil gets forced to one side due to the cornering force?

the engine is length ways...

but yes.... most likely a result of oil starvation, and the pickup just sucking on air rather than oil.

nothing certain yet though

sump is baffled, with external drain frm head, and restrictor in the head.

Need a bigger capacity sump so the high flow oil pump doesnt suck it dry i think
