was on standard rods and pistons, had arp's

what caused it to blow, reving to 9k lifting off and putting the power back on again, going round crainer curves.....

I wouldn't like to lift in craner curves lol - I've gone round donnington in my gti and I thought it was a no no to lifting there

Maybe the sudden drop with the turning caused a bit of oil starvation?

i wasnt driving at the time, wasnt so much a lift off, maybe going from 100% throttle to 90 to 100 again in a flash, 8900rpm -9000rpm in third gear.

most engines blow up hitting a limiter, this was simulating hitting a limiter.

Depends if you are comparing like for like. The reciprocating mass of the piston is what causes failure, usually because the effort required to change the direction of the piston becomes too great for the spec of the crank/rods/piston itself.

This could happen at a comparatively low rev limit with an engine whose stroke is comparatively long, assuming pistons are the same bore. Of course comparing two engines of the same capacity you would have to reduce bore to increase stroke which affects the weight of the piston and thus its reciprocating mass.

It's machined. FUCK ME! It's even more of a work of art now, I would have thought it was forged cos machining something like that would be a mission!

when yuo lift off there is suddenly a lot less exhaust gas to pump out, so the piston travels with no resistance and this is when te breakage occurs.

With the correct rods ,pistons, valves and springs the engine would be safe to about 11,000+ rpm

Also to add, a dry sump set up allows the bottom end to run at a vacuum, meaning that there is less resistance when the piston is forced down on compression etc

I think broster has some carbon fibre pistons that only last 100 miles, but let the engine rev to 20,000 RPM and he doesn't want anyone to know apart from the people who got the MMS....
