Hi Guys,

Im new here on corsasport and my first question on here is about the SRI Corsa B. At the moment im only 16 but 17 in 2 days and basically im wanting a SRI as my first car. But in the faq's the SRI engine specification says its only a 8V OHC, but iv noticed in autotrader and ebay etc some say 16V DOHC SRI. So my question is, is there such thing as a 16V SRI Corsa B? If so is it the same engine as the Corsa sport?

Thanks alot, Si

My second car was a 1.4 8valve SRi, had it when I was 18, don't rememeber the insurance being really expensive, could be at 17 though.

Don't think the 8valve is any slower than the 16 though, its still an mpi engine and depsite all the arguements between the 16v and 8v there isnt a lot of difference except the 16v costs more if it goes wrong..

Would expect the 16v or sport to have better equipment though ie more chance of electric windows etc..

Did it on confused.com and it was with the RAC. It is £400 more to insure the sport over the 94 SRI

Yep you are, only 2 spark plugs on a 4 cylinder engine? Dunno where you got that from or if your getting confused with something else!

Easy way to tell, 8v are small and have one top pulley, 16v are wide engines and have 2 top pulleys

They're both four cylinder, and both have four spark plugs.

The 8v has two valves per cylinder - one for intake and the other for exhaust.

The 16v has four valves per cylinder - two for intake and two for exhaust, making more efficient use of the space in there and allowing the valves to be smaller and thus lighter and more responsive, and less prone to stress due to mass forces - so theoretically more reliable.

In practice its more complicated so this isn't always true.

The easist way to tell is the 8v was l-m reg and the N reg changed over to a 16v thats when they brought in the sport which is the same car as the sri but came with electrics as standard. there isnt alot of difference between the 8v and the 16v speed wise but if i were u id go for the sport as they had e\w and colour coded bumpers. 8V's and 16V's were all group 6 insurance. hope this helps

This is what a 16v lump will look like, excepth the rocker cover will be silver and say ecotec on it in black.

note most importantly the size of the block more than anything, i'm sure someone will have a pic of the much smaller 8v lump.

Ok thanks for the bit of info. But is the sport worth the extra £400 on insurance for the sake of colour coded bumpers and electric windows? Does anyone know the full difference between the spec of the Sport and SRI? Thanks for the help so far

If you get lucky some of the early 8vs have leccy windows as they were an option. Most are pre-wired for leccy windows and mirrors anyway so you could find some leccy windows and mirrors in a scrappy or off a breaking car and put them on

Sport is basically an SRi with the electric bits and sunroof already fitted. No major differences otherwise. You might even find an SRi with those options.

Has aircon though? I'm talking 96/97ish models. Later ones have aircon instead of the sunroof.

Or you can get both, as I did on mine, but I've never seen one before or since with that spec.
