the corsa would weigh two-thirds of the impreza's weight and has more than two-thirds the power of the impreza (that's before taking into account tranny losses) so would accelerate faster.
IMO the corsa would be better on the brakes as it is lighter
The corsa would match the impreza on handling
The impreza would have better traction out the corners

I reckon on balance the corsa could lap faster.

A standard Impreza will do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds.

You cant use that for comparrison really... thats like saying a 400bhp scooby would get beat off a 200bhp 106gti if it was half the weight

The corsa would not handle nearly as well as the impreza, so speed into the bends and out of the bends would be lower - add this to the fact that the corsa also wouldnt be able to power out of the bend as well due to being a FWD. The Corsa has poor composure at best and under heavy braking they are all over the show.

No one has mentioned the fact that the Impreza would probably have about 120lb/ft of extra torque over the Corsa either?

my nova is 167bhp weighs approx 700kgs, does a 5.36 0-60 and a 13.8 1/4, that beats a uk spec impreza. If i had good tyres it would be a damn sight quicker, hence a similarly specced corsa could do the same

power to weight is a very important factor....

The corsa would get ass raped off the line, no doubt.... but it would/or rather should have the upper hand once moving!

a 1300kg Impreza with 230bhp = 176bhp/ton
a 850kg corsa with 170bhp = 200bhp/ton

it makes a difference.

A standard impreza is not all that!!!! It IS BETTER than a std corsa.... but this guy is talking about a corsa with decent setup VS a run of the mill yummy mummy Impreza WAGON fer feck sake.

I'd put a fiver on the corsa getting a beter lap time in the hands of joe average
