usually unless you regester goods you do not have a warrenty know it happened with my washing machine should of sent a form off when i got it.

Manufacturer warranty begins at the time that the goods are shipped to the retailer/reseller.

If your iPod Nano that you just bought has been sat on the shelf in Comet/Dixons/PC World for 3 months, you only have 9 months manufacturers warranty remaining unless you register it and inform the manufacturer of the date of purchase etc.

Where did you get that from rebrauk?
I've never seen a case where the warranty isn't honoured from the date you buy it, which is on the receipt.

thats what i was thinking, i work at argos and it would be there problem if it broke. i've registered now anyway

the warrnty comes from the time the item is sold, used to work in staples and it was always from the date on the reciept.

think about it if an item is in storage over a year and gets sold that would meen it doesnt have a warranty, bit unfair.

It is the manufactures warranty, doesn't matter who repairs it (either retailer of manufacturer)

It would not carry a manufacturers warranty unless it was registered.

*Please note that all of my comments in this thread are based solely on Apple's policies. I am aware of 1 other manufacturer who has the same policy but as we're talking about Apple's iPod Nano's i'll refrain from naming them.

this is true in Apples case, as it is for HP aswell. The wouldnt repair my printer or my GF's camera as it was out of the manufacturers warranty even though we had them for less than a year each.

and i worked in retail were we sold a hell of a lot of HP products if a customer brought the product back faulty we would send it back to HP and they would fix it under the maufactures warranty if it was within the first year, regardless if they had register or not.

What exactly is not true?

Are you disputing that the manufacturer (Apple in the present case) have different obligations to a consumer than say a retailer?

But that is due to a contractual obligation between your company (the retailer) and the manufacturer.

It is totally irrelevant of the consumer who is requested to register their product with the manufacturer.
