Under which conditions are you able to legally drive whilst sorn?

I know you can drive if you have an MOT booked or are going to have work done for the MOT, are their any other conditions which you can drive it?

And do they also apply to towing the car?

you can drive without Tax if you are going to get mot and then obtain tax this is the only one you can get away with but there is a grey area as like my self my car is sorn and requires mot and tax so i will be driving my vehicle to a testing centre then tax the vehicle

You morons, if the car is booked in for a MOT and you can prove it then you can drive it if its SORN, how else are you supposed to obtain tax FFS?

If thats the case thats ridiculous, seriously what a joke. Because after the 20 min MOT test you can drive it to the Post Office and get tax then your car is no longer SORN.

I dunno... I drove mine without tax and mot so I could get to the MOT station. Once I had my MOT cert I went to the local post office and declared my car back on the road.

it says on my SORN paperwork "the vehicle must not be driven/parked on the road under any circumstances"

therefore, it must be trailered to the mot station, and then taxed as normal blah blah blah

Says nothing on the DVLA website either about you not being allowed to drive it on the road to a pre booked MOT test.

I drove my Nova the first time to its pre booked MOT test when it was SORN, even had the car towed down to S&T with no front wings or bonnet on it.

This page is good regarding mot questions

HOW FAR CAN I DRIVE TO THE TEST STATION
I am aware that a car that does not have a current MOT Certificate is not allowed to be used on the road except when going for repairs for a test, or to a prearranged test. Is there a milage limit as to how far a car can be driven without an MOT if it is going to a test centre - ie can one drive 40miles in the car if it to be to an MOT appointment with a garage?
No there is no mileage limit. - MOTT

Sounds a bit anal, but probably best to check with the local police.

I'm sure when the police stop a vehicle with no MOT or is declared as Sorn, one of the first things people say is "I'm taking it to get an MOT now"

Better to be safe than sorry. Especially after seeing that program last night how the police have the ability to take a car off the road that is not taxed, mot'd or insured and have it crushed!

A car being sorn is different set of circumstances to a car being without tax

The law allows 14 days from the date the licence was due in which to relicense. SORN declarations are only required if the vehicle is going to be kept off road beyond this period. However, if the vehicle is used or kept on a public road it must display a valid tax disc.
