Good post mate.

I'll post mine tonight got a fairly decent Jewell tank, although I know some people have got some fairly large ones on here!

I'm actually thinking about "changing" it to a marine tank, although im not sure how hard this is to do ???

In my tank i have the following:
*Guppies:
* 3 Angles - (black, white with blue, silver with gold)
* Golden Nugget Pleco
* Cute little Sucker (pleco)
* Clown Loach
* Blue Gourami
* Ram
* Dalmations

Think thats about it.....

i wouldnt put 3 females in a tank either,, 4 are the minimum that should be put in a tank at once

saying that they prob cant near each other anyway as they will be to busy trying not to get nipped from the barbs

I'd rather have a larger tank with 6+ females in but with alot of cover for them to hide in. Saying that i wouldn't ever keep female fighters anyway

Salt tank for the new house, i am bored with tropical fish now

shame as the females have more personality than the males,, proper wee bitchy fish

6+ is good if its all females but i find 4 and a male is just right

4 and a male is asking for trouble, any male and female bettas together is asking for trouble

Not so sure about the personality things as i've never kept females but we've had 3 males since we've had our tank and they all were good fun to watch

If you haven't seen it already go to www.fishforums.net good place to look at if you keep fish!

Ally - Do you know the situation with regards to changing a take from tropical to marine ?

They sell the water at my local fish shop so should i just totally clear it out and then buy this water / coral etc etc ??

I quite fancy getting into the marine side but don't know a great deal about running them etc ?

Why are they good to watch then ? Do they actually fight and stuff

Thats a good site that 1 Ally but when I asked them a question about pads they answered some strange replies, I told my local fish shop and they said don't tell me "you got that off the internet"

Guess they don't like the net much

Siamese males will kill each other if there is more than one in a tank, you should only EVER have one male in a tank, put 2 in and they will fight untill one is dead. Usually they beat each other up so badly they get internal bacterial infections etc etc and die

As for LFS's - they think they know every thing there is to know about fish. To be fair yes they do know alot but i went with richies mym ones to get some platys and the guy stood there and lectured me for 20 minutes about how to keep fish. He's a right arrogant twat and whenever we go now we always avoid him like the plague as he thinks its his job to lecture everyone

Fishforums is a really good website, alot of sound advice on there, your best bet in regards to converting to salt is to post up in there. I know abit about it but tbh it will be Richie setting it all up and getting it running (yes ) then i'll go from what i already know, what i pick up from rich and all the info i can read up on from the net. It is very expensive to maintain thou, thats why alot of people prefer tropical

Wow essay

Cheers Ally

What do you know already then?
Do you still have to do water changes on the marine tank? guess you add special salt etc ?

I will post up on there when I can as I don't know anything!

All I do know is that you must have ALOT less fish than your average tropical tank.

I just like the whole marine vibe and the live coral etc etc

put 2 males in a tank and if they are alphas then thenl fight to the death,, however its very rare to get 2 alphas so what tends to happen is they will fight until 1 runs away and keeps running away, its frowned apon to put 2 males in 1 tank but iv heard stories from people who have done this in a community tank and theres were fine,,

no matter what you have females - males or mixed there will always be a boss ,with my lot its one of the females
