the air feed over the air filter is not going to be good though. the air filter will be getting serious amounts of cold air compared to what it will get onthe road

I think 5chaap2K knows that, he'll probably take out his headlight on the strip, if he eventually finds the time to actually take it to the strip

Cheers, J

I'm Johan Schaap from the netherlands (specs @ http://www.johanschaap.nl)

I must say that 90% of the information i'm giving has been passed on to me by other members of the CorsaTuningClub (http://www.corsatuningclub.nl) of wich me and axel (blue gsi on the pictures) are both members. i barely own the gsi for 1,5 year now.. things just went in a rush after an insurance payout for a tiny accident (see the little hole in the rear bump?)

Axel's engine spec:

X16XE enlarged to 1620cc
cylinderhead had a headjob (my best english again lol)
powerbox
dr shrick 264 cams
enlarged acceleratorvalve
green twister induction system
FSE Powerboostvalve
Ecotek CB26P unit
mantzel chip
supersprint exhaust manifold
group-A axhaust decat
sebring backbox
156,1ps @ 6900rpm / 172nm @ 4000rpm

i just started to mail with kentcams today to get some input on the strange behavior of my so called '260 degr.' cams

i've sent them this email today:
quote:

Hello there,

Is it correct that the COR1612 cams are 260 degrees?
According to the website they should have a powerband from 2500 – 7000 rpm

As in earlyer conversations I was having trouble getting the engine in stationairy run without overfueling or shutting down, now with adjustable powerboostvalve and a mantzel ecu remap it is finally running stationairy without cutting down on me.
However as soon as I drove in to the shop at mantzel tuning, I couldn’t convince them the camshafts were ‘only 260 degrees’ because the engine was ‘blopping’ it’s way thru it’s stationairy run.
After a few runs on the dyno it came to us that the cams where still doing their job way behind the 7000 rpm… the max power lies at 7600 rpm now, and the power doesnt drop, not even after 7800 rpm.. (revlimiter set to 7850 though, dont want to ruin the engine).

Have u ever heard simulair problems with the COR1612 cams? And is there any way to measure the duration of the cams without dismounting the cams from the engine?
The cams do have the art. code cor1612 engraved in their sides.

Engine specifications:
X16XE Engine (opel corsa 1.6 16v 1997) std 106BHP
Mantzel powerbox
Mantzel chip (dyno-remapped)
FSE Powerboostvalve
Spesso racing headgasket
K&N powerfilter
Open/deacatted exhaust

Ecu info (mantzel):
Idle-rpm: 1100 rpm (standard: 900rpm)
Revlimit: 7850 rpm (standard: 6800rpm)
Max-power: 7600rpm 155,04PS (standard: 5650rpm 106ps)

P.S.: I included a scan of the dynoresults as an attachment with the rpm's drawed in

Ik hope u could help me out a bit.

With kind regards,

Johan (5chaap2k) Schaap

With this editted dynoprint as attach:

just minutes later i've got this reply:

will be continued...

nope.... this was on my old x14xe.

They were piper cams.... but i'm sure they buggered up on the order, as the cams they sent had a part no for cams off a non ecotec engine.... they were 256, or 264 cant r'ber (supposed to be)

Nice car.

I saw about to say that your 160bhp was due to an inaccurate rolling road. Then you post up that after the map you have 153bhp. The rolling road set up at mantzel looks very impressive, much more modern than the ones we've got down here!

I'm glad you sold your powerbox Adam!

You cant run verniers with standard management due to the cam sensor pick up. Well, you could run one, just the inlet side I think.

Ah no.. here we go again..
it was a verry accurate rolling road (digital MaHa) however the car was running underfueled. that gives a verry good performance, however, keeping it underfueled could melt the cylinders and cause severe damage to the engine.

1st of al after the remap i've gotten 155,04ps not 153!? sorry to be this attacking but this isn't the first time i show detailed info, pictures and multiple RR-graphs here with te result of people here not believing it.. I remember something about my 119PS graph here also got commented down as "not possible at all" while 2 other dyno's (also maha and bosh) gave simulair results.

I agree mantzel uses a realy old dyno (bosch, analog) in comparision to the other engineers/tuners here in holland (MaHa digital) but they are both accurate enough to be trusted

I dont believe he sold it for those reasons..

But when i get my mantzel chip remapped straight after applying them.. could that be possible? or do verniers require something like DTA because the cam sensore has to go?

I'm a little confused now..

I am very sceptical of rolling road figures, and do not believe 160bhp is achievable with your spec, nothing against you or your car, but I dont think 160bhp is possible with this spec on any engine, but thats me. We're talking compensated flywheel figures, which are never going to be that accurate anyway.

My old engine made 199bhp on some rollers, I quote this figure, but dont think its accurate, the spec indicated around 180bhp. Like the 333bhp my Calibra made on the same rolling road, I dont think its that accurate, but you'll never know without sticking it in a closed cell dyno.

Please be aware of the difference between ps and bhp.

Cam shaft sensor has to go so standard management would throw a fit. After market management is required.

I'm glad Adam sold his powerbox because it then eventually ended up in my hands.

yes perhaps PK is same as PS, but both are different to BHP figure, which is slightly less than the PS figure.
