I put up with a 2.1 litre Corsa running over 200bhp for 2 years! I was one of the first people to do a 2 litre conversion, so I think that puts me in a position to pass statements (whatever that means?)! Corsas are badly balanced anyway, they were never designed to handle......they were made for shopping and school runs. My Corsa was a great car and I still think the XE is the best NA engine to be used in a hot hatch. But when you put that heavier engine and box in the front of a corsa you upset what is already an unbalanced car! FACT!

No doubt you drive a 2 litre corsa, I was exactly the same when I had mine! It took a standard Swift GTI to make me realise how poor it was when I got left by one down a country lane!

I heard somewhere that the C20XE conversion actually helps improve tourqe steer as it means the driveshafts are at a better angle, lower down, or was that the V6????? dunno talking shit again, any way if i ever decide to get a quick car again i will be starting with a 2litre never a 1.6 screaming machine, but like already mentioned TB's sound the muts nuts

had enough problems with tbs on 1.6 so going for carbs or turbo this time more reliability for everyday driving.

what was ya spec, take it the engine was built to handle TB's, thats why its better to go 2litre a reliable TB'd 1.6 would cost ya a rebuild and uprated parts for 2 litre power, any way im bored of this subject now, have what makes ya happy each to their own dont be afraid to be different, BEARDY !!!! just cossie rod bolts too handle the revs ,but got sick of having to sit and let it warm up first so it would tick over. fair enough i would have tbs if the car was not used everyday but it is .

Oh aye, them were the days! I never get a race anymore tho!

The Corsa was great in a straight line, I loved every minute of it! It was just the handling that got me down especially when all my mates started getting Pulsars, Scoobies, Evo's etc!

general use, better handling, b-roads and track use: 1.6 on throttle bodies.

straight line speed: 2.0 16v conversion.

was speaking to a bloke a few weeks ago who builds and races novas and corsas for rally and race use. he is currently building a 1.6 16v nova. hes had 15 years expirience with rally and race vauxalls and has tried to get a 2 litre conversion to handle well, but has never managed it.

most of the people who say their 2 lite corsas handle well wouldnt know what a "good handling car" felt like anyway!

the tourqe in a 2 litre is a major advantage in actual feeling of acceleration, but id take on any standard 2 liitre corsa on here in my modded 1.6 round a track. ill win

really it depends what you want from your car. if you want to beat people off the lights go for the 2 litre. if you want to be able to underbrake them, get round a corner and still be in front, mod your 1.6.

how about cost and reliabilty , bhp per pound. and 2.0l is very predictable. i have a mate that would be more than happy to take you on around a track, and id guarantee youd lose.

bloody hell, some of you lot talk like your comparing the cars in a competitive profesional racing series

Remember were talking about fast road specced cars here, not pro touring cars. IMO the weight and handling differences are such a small factor compared to reliability straight line speed and tuning potential its not really worth worrying about in a car thats going to spend most of its life on the road. Even for amature trackday stuff the 2 litre XE wins it for me.

exacly my point. So what if the 1.6 wil go round a corner 5mph faster? You'll be staring at the back of the XE by the end of the next straight

we should set up a track day and settle this argument once and for all!

this thread must have been posted 100's of times on here

ive always looked at race and rally cars as an inspiration when building engines, ive seen LOADS of 1.6 16v novas and corsas out on race days, but very few 2 lite ones.

although ive been tempted to do a 2 litre conversion myself many times!

I would like to add to stu's comments.

The corsa i drive has bilstein suspension, not vauxhall. i have driven maybe not as many nice cars as your self but i can vouch for the fact that no matter what else i drive (bmw 328, mercedes c240 my everyday car, clio old and new, etc) I know it wont handle as well as your P1

I think it handles pretty bloody well! Its not the best in the world, its FWD. I really never have a problem with understeer. Plus IMO its just plain good fun
Agreed all wieght upfront will make for poorer handling but not everybody has stripped the back of their car

I have not been out done by anything other than a scooby
Not that i can claim a number of races since the LET cos its always broken But u get the picture
