I returned to my car this morning (after a night of heavy rain) to find the drivers side footwell soaked! the mat was soaking wet, when i took the mat out the carpet was totally soaked too, even a little puddle! i also noticed that behind the drivers seat, in the rear footwell is wet too?

Any idea whats going on? i can only guess it must be rain water? but the windows and doors were all closed properly?

help!

Check Rubber bung where the loom go's into the car.
in the engine bay, drivers side, near windscreen where the scuttle panel is u will see a gap (see a fuse box, waster bottle is on the other side) u will see the loom going threw there, check its sealed.

i only know this as when u do a 2lt 16v if u dont put it back in right, that happens

UPDATE - OK,just spent the last hour mopping water out of the front and rear drivers side footwells and there was loads, checked the bung and all the other stuff you guys mentioned they were all ok. anyway, got it as dry as i could and put some fresh kithchen paper over the areas and took the car for a quick 2 min spin with the heaters on. when i got back the back was totally soaked again and the front was gettin there too. So its not rain water for def. do any pipes go down here? is it the heater matrix? i can tell this is gonna be expensive. Any help would be fantastic. cheers and sorry 4 the essay!

no there is no water in the boot, its just in the drivers front and rear footwells?
So is it likely to be the heater matrix then? as i have no idea what this is!

Surely he could just smell it, coolant has a smell whereas water doesn't?

westsidecorsa - if I were you, I would remove the driver's seat, and remove the carpet from that side of the car including where it goes up to the pedals, if that doesn't give you any clues, put the seat back (but leave the carpet off) and go for another drive, you might find out the cause of the problems then...

water runs thru pipes in engine, then into the dash, through a little radiator in dash (heater matrix) then back out into engine bay

when u put heaters on, it blows the air over the heater matrix (which will be very hot) so you get hot air
